Child endangerment charges should be filed against these "parents" and a sign in big bold letters stating it.

The thing is that you can't let idiots dictate to you if you want to go to a national park or not by their actions. If they did you would just sit at home curled up in your cocoon.

Just recently a pair of tourist step over the railing at Bryce Canyon National Park and fell to their deaths 300-400 feet below, what about the idiots that get caught in the floods that happen frequently in Utah's slick rock areas even after being warned of thunderstorms that day.

In the end a idiot is a idiot.

It's a total lack of awareness. We live in a world where adults think animated movies are educational. This is why we have so many warning labels on products...someone tried something one time with really bad results.

I hear what you’re saying @JimP. I probably should have been clearer, to be sure. The high tourist traffic parks (Yellowstone, Yosemite, Glacier, Banff, Jasper) are all on my no-go list. Denali (now McKinley again, for now anyway..) I’ll go to because it militantly run and access is highly monitored. I far prefer Wrangel-StElias, ANWR, G/ANP. Acadia in Maine is one of my favorites.

But the fore mentioned parenthetical list has too many dangers for the average American to comprehend, let alone be expected to be respectful of. And I just don’t like seeing people hurt. I’ve long maintained that folks get caught up in their emotions in parks and can’t understand that these places and animals are wild. Not zoos.

A problem is that most of the popular National Parks are being loved to death.

Quite a few out west here are limiting the number of tourist that they are letting in, either by a timed entry system or just shutting the gates when they reach a level. The last time that I was in Rocky Mountain National Park it was a zoo with idiots all over the place. Since then they have gone to a timed entry system.

Quite a few of the popular ones are now actually requiring that you make a reservation to get in.

I manage public lands for a living. The sheer volume of stupid stuff is pretty astounding. The average person is not really capable of understanding much beyond the commute to the office, the 4 walls of their apartment and what gets put on the tv and YouTube. I don’t like seeing people get hurt but I’m also not here to babysit grown adults. When I have a large wildfire I have to issue closure orders and use law enforcement to literally keep people from driving into the fire so they can get a cool video. They apparently don’t know that wildfire will kill you no matter how many times you tell them. I’ve had people argue with me that I should let them drive into the fire because they’ll be safe about it. Point being people are dumb and our world is so easy and soft that we have removed consequences for doing dumb stuff.

I can’t bring myself to go to a National Park in the USA or Canada anymore.

As a retired USNPS ranger I can almost agree with you. The "Crown Jewel" parks are pretty much a freak show, during tourist season especially. But there are hundreds of other units worth visiting. For example, I was happiest the short time I worked at Nez Perce Battlefield in Chinook, Montana. There I was a one man band. Did everything. The unit is essentially as it was when Poker Joe and Looking Glass were buried there in 1877. No big gawdy visitor center or hoards of foreign visitors trampling all over the place. In the morning you can usually see deer on the grounds, especially during hunting season when they know it's a sanctuary. Don't have to walk far to find pheasants, Huns, or sharptail grouse. Also very scenic at the foot of the Bear Paw Mountains. The place is a hidden treasure. There are many others too. But the Jewels get all the attention (good!).

I know a couple of easy ways into yellowstone via horseback that avoids 95% of the crowd of obnoxious tourist. I have a senior pass so they don't loose many $.What I find annoying is the USFS and parks in general crowd bicycles and equestrians onto the same trails and they dont mix well at all. QUADS are a whole issue by themselves they are very destructive to land and they are rude, not anyone here youknow but ...

This is perfect, and quite frankly the mentally of people.

The park unit is so small I don't know why anyone would want to saddle up. The only trail is maybe a mile long. Musig Broad Lake? I am familiar with everything from Glasgow to Shelby and Canadian border to Great Falls. That one doesn't ring a bell.

But we learned all about the outdoors by watching Bambi!

There’s ways into Rocky Mountain NP too. We do crowd everyone into the same areas and trails. Not really much other choice I’m afraid. At least not right now. What’s needed is for the red tape to go away and let us ground pounders do our jobs. Then we could build more trails, get people spread out a bit. Though I do enjoy areas with not trails during hunting season. The quads and UTVs are an issue. Lots of damage including erosion, wildlife habitat, heritage sites etc. they are here to stay I’m sure but people need to learn to stay in trail and use them responsibly.

@Betterinthebush - at least they aren’t “Over Protective Parents”!
Some people think all animals behave like in a Walt Disney cartoon. Regardless of those few dopes — I have enjoyed several of our National Parks: Yellowstone, Yosemite, Glacier…..All were absolutely spectacular and (kooky Tourists aside) worth the trip, time, & money

Here's the target for the NorthForks - 25yds off a bag, iron sights. Hunting leopards over dogs the range won't be more than that.

Flew in an airshow in Smyrna years ago, beautiful country.

Best regards,

Franco
