These small caliber, using match bullet vs a good bonded drive me crazy

As my opening statement says this endless debate drives me nuts
Then some guy wants to chime in about his trip to RSA and how he was throwing bolts of lightning
With his .223 with a 77 match king or 6.5cm eldm

I use them all depending on quarry and hunting conditions. Match, Cup and Core, Partitions, Bonded, and Mono’s.

No debate here. They all work well when properly understood and employed.

This is always a good discussion that never gets heated.

The .224 77 TMK, 73 and 75 ELDm kills NA animals with authority as does a bonded 75gr Speer Gold Dot. Pages upon pages of documentation. In my experience it is almost too much of a good thing inside of 400 yards if you like to eat what you shoot. I would not use in a stopping rifle, and I’ve never been to Africa.

I do use a small caliber for deer much of the time but it will be throwing a TSX you can be sure of that!

I’m with @TMac. I use them all depending on situation. .223 on deer? Sure. I prefer an TSX, hammer, or Lehigh defense controlled chaos. I’ve used the 77 TMK but didn’t care for picking all the fragments out of the meat. 6.5 creed on elk, I had to pack out my buddies 330” Bull two weeks ago that he killed at 350 yards with a 6.5 creed shooting 124gr hammer bullets. I’m shooting cup and core Norma’s out of my 7x57 this year, ttsx out of my .300 win mag, hammer HBCs out of my 7-08ai. Daughter used a 100gr ELD VT in a 6.5 creedmoor on her coues deer to great effect. 105gr bergers out of my 6 ARC.

Point is I use the bullet that best does what I am trying to accomplish whatever the mix of recoil management, accuracy, and type of terminal performance I’m looking for.

I know that the Hornady team and Horizon Firearms took 22 Creeds and shot pretty much everything you can think of for plains game. Did exceptionally well. Even took a zebra which the PH was skeptical about since the zebras are pretty thick. Shoot2Hunt podcast guys took a 6UM (6mm SAUM basically) had great results on everything even a giraffe.

I am shocked about the blood loss compared to bigger tougher bullets.

I shot all my animals this last August with a 225 ELD-M with my 300 PRC and it did exceptionally well. Going back in May with a 6.5 PRC as well. People in my group taking the 22 ARC.

Guy shot a giraffe in our camp this last August with a 460 Rigby... tracked it 14 miles and couldn't find it, so which is worse? Bigger caliber isn't necessarily better....
