Since I don't want to make a thread every time a holiday happens so I'm just leaving this topic for all holidays year round. Birthdays included.

I'm hoping for a roast dinner with the family for Christmas eve. On the day of Christmas, we (mom, dad, older brother) are going to dad's sister's house. I'm not really wanting any gifts for I don't really want too much but an extra Amazon gift card never hurt anyone:rolleyes:.

My birthday was pretty cool too. I has 3 of my friends over at Cheesecake Factory and after lunch, we went to my house for a wholesome game of Cards Against Humanity.

This run up to Christmas is special. Things seem to be settling down after several years of an estranged relationship with certain family members. It is certainly in the spirit of the season to see a hatchet buried deep into the past! I am looking forward to the holiday!

I notice the older I get the less the holidays are about the "things" and way more about the people
I get to share them with. I am lucky to have both my kids and grandkids within a couple hours drive.

Ever since my dad turned 80 (9 years ago) and his health started going downhill, my wife and I decided we will make the 1,300 mile trek to Virginia to spend Christmas with him.

He is our last surviving parent, and a REALLY great guy. I owe him so much and it is an honor to call him Dad.

Tarbe, you're truly blessed to have had him this long, lost my dad when I was 21. He never really got to see me as a man but his untimely death made me realize every day is a gift and you better make the most of it. Nine months later I was on my first safari and I only slowed down in the early 2000's when we had 4 children under 4 (started with twins)!

Now I'm walking in your shoes, my mother of 90 is the last of her generation in the "Winter" of her life. God is Great, smell the roses, take a hunt and share a drink by a fire with friends....You never know what tomorrow holds.

Christmas Blessings to all at AH.

John Ed

BTW - Took my Mom on Safari in '96, spent a magical week with Piers Taylor and his lovely wife Jane in Matetsi, Zim was a great place. I'll never forget those days.

I am so blessed to have a wonderful family. We will celebrate this Christmas together. We have the added joy of celebrating this little fellas first birthday three days after Christmas. One year old Wyatt Charlie

Appropriately decked out as an elephant for Halloween! Now who would have thought my grandson's first Halloween costume would have anything to do with an elephant

After our large family and friends Thanksgiving dinner 75+ people it makes me reflect on who was not there and who may have been there for the last time. Life passes us by at a breakneck pace and as I get older I find myself paying more attention to those who are in it and less on myself.
As Christmas nears and we busy ourselves remember that the most precious gift we can give is ourselves and our time with the ones we love.
Merry Christmas
Shawn

Hoping to check out the Christmas crap in NYC after finals are over with.
