The Distance to Sight in For Cape Buffalo?

All I can say is WOW . That was a very intense 4 minutes.
I have met the hunter in the RDB cape buffalo video and have hunted twice with the outfitter. They are all first class people. The hunter is a very experienced hunter and the PH is top flight. That situation was unique.

The bull had been shot twice and was down when other bulls nearby attacked him, goring him in the groin repeatedly. Normally, the PH would have held back for a while but not wanting the other bulls to continue their attack, they got in the bakkie and drove close to chase away the other bulls. Having done that the hunter approached to place one insurance shot on what was thought to be a dead buffalo.

Remember that old saying, "It is the dead buffalo that will kill you". On firing the 3rd shot into the bull, he got up and charged the hunting party. They were all very fortunate that the truck was so close that they were able to take cover behind it. It took 8 shots total to kill that bull.

I have hunted buffalo with RDB and our hunt was great and I would hunt with them again. No matter how good you may or may not be, buffalo are tough and unpredictable. A charge is rare unless you provoke one, but can occur and every animal and hunting situation is different.

If there is a lesson to be learned, I would say, kill your buffalo with the first well placed shot. Use good ammo like TSX, A-Frame and keep killing him, over and over again until both you and the buffalo are convinced that he his dead-dead. Then wait for 15-20min for him to die. After all that, carefully approach from the rear end of the buffalo with at least two other hunters to cover you. Place one more shot into his spine and if there is any sign of life, repeat that process until the buffalo has accepted his change of life status. He will not give up easily. Do not let your ego get in the way and attempt a one shot kill. No matter the caliber used. Nuff said.

Interesting video. Educational, and almost disastrous. Interesting the buff that is down let the other one work him over without reacting much........ then a sudden resurrection when shot again.

Like has been said, "it's the dead ones that kill you."

American bison bulls will also work over an animal that is down. It's a behavior that's pretty strange to me.

There's potentially lots to critique, but possibly the PH should have been ready to shoot and shooting as he got up. With cover so close, it's an either-or situation though.
I've watched gobblers flog the plum sauce outta their buddies after they are down. He's finally getting his licks in!

I sighted in my 375’s, 416’s and 458 Lott .5 inches high at 50 yards which is usually dead on at 100 yards for DG.
Me too. Only I do it backwards. I sight in dead on at 100 yards then noticed it is .5" high at 50 :)

Sir, I think I have been writing to you about the purchase of the HK 639 rifle under an email "Tt Jake." If this is you, then I am truly interested. I am just trying to verify identify. Tt Jake is asking for a cash transaction. No disrespect intended, Just trying to verify who I am talking to. Thank you. Respectfully. Dan

Hey my friend, I am returning to SA for a Cape Buffalo hunt in June 26. My outfitter has suggested Highveld but I have read some poor reports. Wondering how satisfied you were with your mounts from them? Thanks in advance.
Finally back to somewhat normal I missed reading the messages and posts
