Suggestions on taking Smoked Salmon to SA

I was specifically asked by customs in Atlanta if I had any biltong. I’m not sure why I was asked I had no indicators of hunting (camo clothing, gun, etc). Maybe he could just tell I liked biltong.
Presumably the Zollner knew Biltong and just had a great desire for it.

Definitely not the case. I asked "why do you need some" and was promptly told not F with him. Some people have no sense of humor.

I would not do this. Just eat the salmon yourself, imagine all the ways this can go wrong. I don’t approve of flying with fish.
what he said, this will definitely go wrong.

if you smoke the salmon, it will be fine, especially if it starts out frozen. smoked fish is salted and smoke as a method of curing to keep longer than fresh fish.

regarding the legality, i had vacuum packed biltong confiscated coming back into the US. (i was a bitter american). soooo, might not be "legal" but if it it packaged nicely that will go a long way to allay concerns.

i agree, the worst can happen is that it gets confiscated. play dumb and they might let it slide, that is if they even find it.
