Indeed. Everyone thinks pheasants must be hunted with pointing dogs. Baloney! Much more fun to have a flushing dog working at the end of the muzzle than a pointing dog out on the horizon. Both my current Lab and Fr Britt are excellent pointers but I've had a lifetime of flushing Labs. Being right there when they get "birdy" really cranks up the blood pressure. You get just as excited as the dog. Then the added anxiety of not knowing exactly when that near at hand neon rooster will go airborne. Nyaaah! Boom! "Gittem girl!" My close working pointing Lab Ellie is extremely deadly ... but there's more to hunting than killing things. They are #1 Pheasant dogs.
Good luck with the remedial education class at your house.
Yes, the series 1883 had it right as when you love something they take a piece of your heart and you take a piece of theirs so when you lose them is why it hurts so much.I have owned a lot of differnt dogs, never owned a spaniel, Been blessed with more than one good dog, They always a take a piece of your heart coming and going. My Last dog a black lab named Princess, grew up with my youngest daughter. She wasnt the hardest charger you ever saw. But I had to take the boat more out more than once to get her and a cripple she was chasing in open water. Not a hard charger but had no quit. I trully miss her. Maybe I will get another dog soon.
