Spear Grand Slam bullets?

I wrote an article about 30 years ago for Handloader Digest where I tested a pile of bullets for terminal performance, mostly with 30 caliber but also others. Photos of a few Grand Slams are attached as is the diagram from Speer regarding the Grand Slam. The bullets were tested at various velocities. the conclusion with the Grand Slams was that they were better than the standard cup & core bullets IF the velocity didn't exceed the bullets limits- which when exceeded resulted in core separation- however the separation was well after the bullet would have killed the animal if shot at any "normal" angle. These were the original edition of Grand Slams.

Let’s not get into a pissing match over terminology. Speer called them a molecular bonded or some such decades ago and still do. I’ve never seen one separate and my experience is that they tend to pass on through.
However-the op chose to go in a different direction so it doesn’t seem important anymore anyway.
The fusion bullet has also been excellent the couple of times my daughter has used that one. . .

The fusion is an interesting Bullet as the jacket is electroplated to core. Speer Gold Dots are made the same way. That’s why the jackets aren’t as shiny as those made with separate jackets.
The hot core process has been long debated as to weather or not it is true bonding. I consider it in between. I shoot a lot of hot cores and grand slams.

I like Speer GS bullets. Have shot a number of elk and moose with them in the .35 Whelen / 250 grain. Usually got full penetration and always got controlled expansion. Perhaps they are too tough for some jobs. I found them too tough for deer sized animals. Kills were slower when placed in the lungs on smallish game like whitetails.
Since the OP has decided to use the superior Norma Oryx bullets, I suppose this discussion doesn't matter any more, but I like the Oryx even better. Open wide on small critters, penetrate deep on big critters, retain almost all their mass while doing so. What's not to like?

Are these similar to their Mag Tips?

Are these similar to their Mag Tips?
In my tests of 30+ years ago the Mag Tip had the best performance of the Hornady/Sierra/Speer cup& draw bullets. I talked with Dave Andrews of Speer and he noted that while the Grand Slam was Speer's "fancy" bullet, the Mag Tip was his favorite.

Avoid heavy bone & you will be fine.

I once fired a 300Gr Speer Grand Slam soft point (out of a .375 Holland & Holland Magnum BRNO ZKK602) into the ball-and-socket joint of a large African male lion which I shot over bait in Zimbabwe. The bullet blew to pieces upon impact. We had to spoor the lion & shoot him when he charged on the following morning.

Had my point of aim been a double lung shot behind the shoulder, that lion would have folded before going 100 yards while coughing up frothy blood.
Speer grand slam or African grand slam?
In italy maybe the most expensive soft point premium bullet ever saw...14 euro each one in 458 cal!!!

Only solid speer made bullets had tungsten solid. But they have been banned in USA too.
I have found them at 4 euro each round in 458 some years ago. They have become sold out before I could have time to get a call or send a e mail order to get them !!!
