Hunted
US / Canada/Namibia/Moz/Zim
My wife & I had a great 6-day hunt on the Eastern Cape in August with Crusader Safaris. It was our 5th African hunt and first time in RSA (other than many transits through Joburgh). Peter runs a solid, honest operation, our deal was sealed with a handshake last year @ DSC. We'd always wanted to hunt RSA but weren't interested in high fenced ranches, regardless of hectareage. Plus, I was slowed down from a bout w/Lyme disease and wanted to have fun but take it slow & easy. We also had a great time eating & drinking our way from Capetown along the coast and inland to the camp (which was well-appointed & offered great game meals) near Bedford.

Our guide was a seasoned Zim PH who knew the other PH's in Zim/Moz where we'd hunted, and we, as always, learned a lot from him. Crusader's "conservancy" consists of many private, working ranches ( most raise angora goats/merino sheep) with the only fencing being plain old barbed wire (think US West) which all game can easily negotiate. The terrain varies from wide open Wyoming-like hills to brushy riverine draws and everything in-between. Plainsgame are healthy and fairly abundant, depending on which area was hunted. We saw everything from antbear to zebra, including some huge lechwe bulls. We wanted to shoot indiginous RSA species , I shot a blesbok & springbuck and my wife shot a warthog and a beautiful black wildebeest. We used our custom-barrelled BLR in .375 Ruger. A highly reccomended hunt!

Congrats on your hunt joester, we would appreciate a few pics ;)

Sounds like you had a great time...(y)

Any supporting pictures :).... or can we assume that the trophy's are hearsay... ;)

X3 on the picture request. Thanks for sharing

Glad you had a great time!

Has anyone mentioned pics? :)

yup, JG, its all hearsay, you got me! I'll see about getting pics up, this Lyme has caused some cognitive deficits ( temporary, I hope) and the pic posting , for me, is a challenge.

Get the photos on your desk top, click on them and slide them over into the post and you are done. :)
Look forward to seeing the result.

Glad you had a good hunt.

Hope the recovery from the Lyme disease is speedy.

All the best.

Look forward to more. Where did you pick up the Lyme disease?

Congrats to you and your wife on a great hunt. Deb and I got our pigs in the Bedford area last year as well. we would love to see some pics of your trophies.

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
