Late in 2022 I booked a buff hunt with Hugo Engelbrecht and Frans Loots in Magudu for an old Daggaboy in January.

After a day on the big tracks I got a quick but close shot on the bull late the Thursday with my .450-400 3&14” Gibbs. Full frontal and bullet (400gr Woodleigh) went somewhat left and low, resulting in a low single lung shot.

We tracked mud and blood through impenetrable thickets for hours before 24 hours of over 100mm of rain snookered us. Saturday and Sunday we continued, hoping we on the correct track. In the poor weather I’d swapped my double for my .416 Ruger Alaskan.

Mid Afternoon Sunday we finally braught the old boy down.

Hi Dewalt, would you do a late season wet hunt again?

Congratulations on getting the job done.

Hi Kevin. I haven’t forgotten about you Ferraday photos. Looking through the external HDs bit by bit.

I will hunt an old Buff every day of the year, rain, humidity, sunshine, cold and snow.

Hello. I’m Dewald and I’m an addict…

Never measured the horns, I’m scull mounting him. Carcass weight was 381kg or 840Lb

That is a nice buff. You must have had one "hell" of a tracker. Was he persistent or just lucky. LOL

We all worked as a team looking, listening and tracking. The lead tracker, Musa is very good though.

I've always wanted to visit Africa in the summer to see everything green and maybe even do the whole Christmas on the beach thing. However, the idea of hunting in the heat and humidity doesn't seem like the best time to me. I also assume that there is a mamba behind every bunch of grass that time of year, LOL.

Congrats on a fine trophy. You certainly earned it.

Snakes we saw, but ticks and pepperticks are a handfull now

Very nice looking buffalo. Good solid body and nice bosses. Glad you were able to find and finish him off.
Bruce

Nice buffalo, solid work by the trackers to get you back on the bull. The pictures of the veld in summer green are very impressive. I have had a fight with pepper ticks before and they can be damn annoying.

Thank you for sharing

Congrats and thanks for sharing!

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
