Those are the little bastards that give you a shot walking in the yard at night wearing flip flops. Happened to a buddy of mine last summer. Walked out to his truck to grab something and wham!

Not good.. I know two different people who have killed them in the double digits (or close to it) in one night in their yards. Think it had something to do with locusts/cicadas

I've seen the same thing. Those little ones come in droves as you said. I've always heard the young ones can't control their venom so you get a full shot and no dry bite. I've heard other people say that's BS but I don’t really care to find out for myself. That's where having a couple of old country/farm cats comes in handy. I don't really care for cats but they can be pretty damned crafty at killing the snakes that come into the yard.

I’ve heard that about the venom. Yea mom has always had cats on their place and you very rarely see a snake. Nice to have a few around.

Snakes are definitely crawling here, third damn Rattlesnake that I've had in my garden this week!!!

This is a healthy SOB, about 4’ long. It’s rare to see a cottonmouth who’s head looks small. He was in a dry pond close to the house, I had taken my gun off and bye the time I retrieved it he had disappeared.

Been around poisonous snakes all my life. Mostly Western diamondbacks and prairie rattlers. Even the occasional rare coral in the far SWNM-Ariz. When visiting relatives in Florida many water moccasins in the swamps and the largest diamondback I’ve ever encountered in a palmetto thicket. Scary big!!

In Africa a few small cobras, mambas and puff adders. The mamba is the one that really gives me the willies. They lay on paths suspended at eye level as you’re crouched and sneaking along. The black rattlesnake of our southwest mtns, by experience, seems to be one of the most aggressive.

Recently, neighbors near our farm at Malalag Mindanao have taken out a couple of fairly large Samar cobras. So we and everyone in the area have been extra vigilant. The Philippine Samar cobra is a spitting variety and has an extremely potent neurotoxin venom. The Samar cobra with yellow and slate blue/gray color, is striking in appearance (no pun intended)… pic below.

There are 2 less of those in eastern Kentucky. Unfortunately, 1 less black snake also. I killed one copperhead two weeks ago with a pole saw while clearing brush on my new property, neighbor killed the second copperhead this week with a 12 gauge shotgun in his yard while clearing a bank, and At first the black snake got away from the backhoe clearing brush away from the creek, but it wasn't fast enough to avoid the dozer. The dozer's tracks chewed it up. The garter snake made it to safety.

Yep! Definitely SSSU. Nothing to mess around with! Within the last year there have been at least 3 snake bite deaths on Bohol Island. I think Brent reported on the 53 yo adult fatality last year… additionally two kids. The news reports list the snakes involved as being king cobras but I think more likely they were Samar cobras. Since then, there has been a push to supply anti venin supplies strategically to more rural clinics. If bitten, it’s time critical. Those bitten in rural areas have little chance of survival if the only anti venin treatment is too far away in the bigger cities like Cebu.
