Sit Laurens van der Post

Leonard was allowed to grow a beard to show the march of time! Love it. Thanks.

This gentleman lived is a special time and lived large. His books are legend, and this rare footage is a unique window into that wonderful era.

Beautiful, thank you for sharing. Don't you and your group do something similar every year?

His books make for fascinating reading

I couldn’t imagine sleeping cowboy style in the Kalahari with hyenas and lions roving about.

Great video find, Kevin.
Taylor did throughout his life of ivory hunting (yea, I know some would say poaching, but I would do the same then if was alive and could!). We have all become soft!

I believe Ian Nyschens wrote about doing that as well

Kevin, Thank You for posting such a real video of safaris of the past. I especially appreciate the images of the Bushmen, hired to track, cook, and make camp. Indispensable members of the Safari.

Great video and thanks for sharing! I would love to go a trip like that even if I wasn't hunting.

His books that I have read are definitely interesting but tend to become too philosophical for me.

I generally read for entertainment. Perhaps I am a dullard but when he gets into Jung and philosophy I tend to skip chapters.

I have only read a couple, perhaps they are not all that way.

Thanks for the neat video Kevin.

From what Van Der Post says, this safari took place in 1955. It is interesting that the Falls are visible from the Great North Road in the video. Has anybody else been able to see the falls from the road like this before?

It is also interesting the map shows South Africa, Southwest Africa, Rhodesia, Northern Rhodesia and Nyasaland as a single country without borders.

Yes I know, I'm weird in the things I notice.;)

Good Afternoon,
How firm are you on your Dakota 416? I am highly interested but looking at a few different guns currently.

Best,
BJ

What is the minimum you would take.

I have a Chapuis 450-400 double that looks brand new and shoots well, never been hunted from what I can tell. I am willing to part with it as I have a 375 H&H Sodia on it's way from Dorleac & Dorleac. I am looking for $9,250 for it and if you are interested, I am happy to send you some pictures. Regards,
Steve
