So I just booked my second plains game hunt in South Africa for 12 animals in 10 days.
Is it bad I can bring everything in my carry on and book bag. I got my bino and range finder in my harness. Flashlight, mask and gloves fit in it too. Leaving my knife behind. Buying bullets at $3 and the rifle is free. I got 3 sets of clothes and some outer wear, light weight boots, and sandals. All my clothes are safari solid colors which is just my lifestyle. Never been a camo guy for any hunting.
Am I missing something that would make my trip more beneficial? Only thing I am leaving behind I would want is my shooting sticks by primos versus the african traditional sticks and my pocket knife. At same time I never used either last trip. I figured I'd buy my whiskey and cigars that are needed when I land and finish before I leave. I have two free checked bags with flights but I don't know what else to bring?

For myself I would be lost without a pocket knife.

On the rangefinder, won't your PH have one?

I test fit my clothes and everything today. My safari isn’t until July. Lol
Got everything into a 22x14x11.5
Will be taking that and a bookbag. A vacuum seal bag helped to condense the clothes. Taking one pair of boots and I hope that doesn’t come back to bite me.

Incredibly doable! SC boys know how to pack light! However, my last few trips over I have taken a hard sided case that fits under the size limit and is nearly indestructible. It allows me to have a regular checked bag and I really like painted ostrich eggs as Gifts. So I can pack ammo and clothes and some items to give away—wool socks and clothes to work staff. So carry on and backpack and I can take ammo and knife without problems.

The other down side of your plan is they will want to go thru both bags and unpacking at the gate (when you have spent so much time organizing how it fits into the case) in joburg is a pain!!!!

I did snap a pic of my set up. Stuff outside the bag Will be in bookbag

Sounds fine to me. I would ask my PH if he had range finding binos, I would guess the likely answer is yes. For plains game, I just tell my PH to not bother telling me the range with anything less than 300, which is basically always going to be the case.

You rock. Go for it and have a blast. Can't wait to see the report and photos.

Nothing wrong at all if you can bring it all in your carry on. I personally like to bring a checked bag since it’s free and this keeps my carry on small. I want to make sure it can fit under seat in case there is no overhead space. Make sure your outfitter has sunscreen for you since you can’t bring more than 3oz liquid containers on plane.

You can always buy a knife when there.

I like to bring a med kit with a variety of items, then leave it there. Also paracord, it seems to always get used in hunting.

It is your vacation, if you can pack that light, I think it is brilliant!

Be careful of hunting Chewore South, the area has been decimated.....

Curious about this. I hunted Chewore South with D&Y in September and they did tell me it was there last hunt there.

Which outfits shot it out?
