Sight ideas for 404 Jeffery

I have a Leupold VX6 1-6 with an illuminated heavy duplex on my 404. I used the illumination even in daylight on my buff. Black reticles on a black buff are hard to pick up quickly (at least for me). The VX6 is a great scope as it is a true 1 power. You can easily shoot with both eyes open if the s__t hits the fan. Personally, I like that option as you may not have enough time to remove the scope to shoot irons!

I found a problem with standard crosshairs on a black target, namely black bear at close range made it very difficult to be certain of my aim point. It was a close in shot, 25 yards from a ground blind. Too much magnification at 3 power. The sight picture was full of bear. I ended up shooting the bear too far back into it's liver. I solved this by going to a trijicon 1-4 x 24 dangerous game scope with lighted recticle. It wasn't cheap but well worth every penny when shooting on a black target. I suspect it will work just as well on Mr. dugga boy this upcoming June.
