Sig Image Stabilized binos

During some range time with old friends a few days ago I was able to try out some Sig Sauer Image Stabilized binoculars my buddy had recently purchased. They were really slick! My brother owns an older pair of Canon image-stabilized binoculars and they work nicely, but they are big (probably as small as the technology of the time could make). These new Sig units are compact, despite being the 12x version. I'm sorely tempted to get a pair for myself. If you are hunting over long distances and glassing a lot of far terrain, these binos could take the place of a spotting scope and tripod. Simple operation, a top-mounted lever engages the stabilization feature and the image becomes very steady (instead of being jittery, things kinda float). I didn't get the chance to use them in lower light conditions, but for the price point, I think most folks would be pleased with them. Most online retailers are showing them from $900-$1200, depending on the model. The Sig website shows them all the way up to 18x.

I haven’t used them but those those those things look exactly like Luke’s binos from the original Star Wars.

Watching with interest, however I'm unlikely to switch from the Leica Geovid models I currently have. Might be too damn old to spend money on something else, when what I have works exceptionally well. Still interested in how they perform.

The glass in these Sigs are not the quality of high end Leica/Zeiss/Swarovs... but they are good enough for my 59 year old eyes. My old Zeiss 10x50s are still good enough for me, too, but these are interesting.

Impressed. I wouldn’t sell my swaros to get a pair but if I was looking to buy new binos-I would definitely give them some consideration.

Hey guys,

Total agreement with both those statements.
The Sig's are not NL pure's Or geovids, I've seen a lot of use on these stabilized binos from east coast whitetail guys and mariners.
They seem to preform very well from boat decks in moderate waters. (The boys hunting sea ducks in MD love them)
They do get a lot of interest from older customers with the shakes, and guys who aren't accustomed to stabilizing a normal pair of glasses (East coast whitetail guys... Lol)

IMO, Great pair of glasses if you have trouble stabilizing or are glassing from a rough idling truck / boat / etc.
Glass quality is on par with most upper mid-level units - (Leupold, Vortex Razors, Etc)

These were the cat's meow glassing the shoreline for Bears. Our outfitter had a pair and from a boat there was nothing better. The stabilization made up for the lesser quality glass.

Got the twelves, they are pretty sweet definitely doesn’t replace tripod glassing. But they are awesome when riding a utv and stop and glass, walking around, etc. they are pretty sweet when you have 15s on a tripod and come out of them and want to look at different areas without moving where the 15s are at.
I would say mine are going to replace like 8s for archery and when weight isn’t an issue while using a vehicle.
If I was backpacking and also taking a spotter I would probably stick with 10s on chest and tripod. To me they are another tool, not a replacement. Hope that helps.
