tested my 458 Win Mag with 500gn Degol Softnose at noon today.
At 50 m.
It's a Franz Sodia,Ferlach,Austria.
A Double over and under, which I'll try out next time in Africa and leave my .375 Rep at home. I've never had any extraction problems.
It has a Burris Fast Fire III scope on it, which is great.
By the way, I spoke to a Mr. Sodia from Salzburg, a descendant of Franz Sodia, the gunsmith from Ferlach, and he told me that the American market wanted this combination for decades. Kynoch discontinued production of large African bullets in the late 1960s (colonial hunting was out) and Americans considered other large calibers to be “un-American.”
