Scheiring Afrika double-barrel rifle

Was watching a driven game you tube video and noted this brand of double rifle, they have their own cartridge, the 425 African Scheiring. Interesting, wont replace my "want" for a Heym 89b in .500 NE but I thought it was worth posting here for the discussion.

Scheiring builds fantastic, top-quality weapons—no doubt about it.
But the double rifle in .425 is brimming with pomp.
Scheiring or his clientele love to show off; the weapon would suit Arabic oilsheikhs.
What his gunsmith Zeindl-Wildmann says about the .470 NE is absolute nonsense.
I've never heard such rubbish (..would have no depth effect,
poor effect on large game, does not penetrate deep into the animal's body, because, in his opinion, the projectile overturns :ROFLMAO:)
Anyone who also advocates a big bore cartridge for DG in the thick bush with 950 m/s = 3. 117 ft/s
is, to put it mildly, a beginner.

Scheiring builds great weapons, for a lot of money and people with—predominantly—bad taste

Regulation on most modern doubles is laughable. Open the box and and the buyer is supposed to be happy with a two shot 3.5 inch "group" at 50 meters that may or may not be crossing. My lamentably discontinued Blaser S2 will put 4 non-crossing shots (LxR / LxR) into 2.5 inches at 100 yards with each of its three sets of barrels (30-06, 375, and 500/416). Each individual barrel shoots MOA or better. I have killed game with it from 25 yards to nearly 250.

Interestingly, so will my Suhl built 9.3x74R from the twenties. It was equipped with claw mounts and an ancient scope. JJ Perodeau built new rings and did not have to touch the regulation. It has taken a bear in BC at nearly 150 yards.

Wow, beautiful rifles. Thanks for sharing.

Hi,
I think also I can inform a bit about Scheiring. I got a Scheiring Double in 8x75RS. I have been to their shop I think twice and also spoke to Mr. Scheiring senior. The rifles are in a class of the highest quality in Ferlach and their accuracy is outstandig. They have proven it several times. The prices for double rifles and their well known Pirschstutzen is on the top end. The customers are often from Middle East and order very special rifles with enourmous engravings. When we discussed the prices for a custom rifles I had to accept that I am not the customer who is willing to pay these prices. So I did not order a new one and time passed. On a driven hunt I met and spoke to german collector for Scheiring rifles and due to his age he wanted to sell a lot of his guns. I bought a set of 4 different Scheiring rifles from him and I love them. But the used market for those guns is small and I could get them for an affordable price. The retail of those guns isn´t that good what a lot of people think. In Europe you can find them when you have time for less than a 1/3 of the order prices.

All my life I shoot bolt actions.
My double rifle experience is pittiful, down to test shoot of russian double in 30-06 and trying Merkel double in 416.
50 meters, is end of useful range, as far as accuracy is concenred.
I was not impressed.

So, DR is not for me.
Now about Shceiering.
Actually I do not know much about Scheiring except that famous Franz Albrecht shoots them. (There is very nice Franz Albrecht podcast on hunting on YT)

Next thing what I know about these rifles is this:
I was watching (or reading) one American experienced author and hunter commenting on those, and the difference between them and English bespoke guns.

So, he said: they do not make checkering on their rifles. And he asked them on some hunting show, why they do not put checkering on the rifles?

They said: because they want to display quality of wood in full, and checkering would ruin that.
So, basically these are exhibition guns, of high value. British are more practical. They do not avoid proper checkering just for show.

I also know that for African rifle of DG provenance, I need checkering, as on sweltering grounds in Africa, my hands will sweat. I do not need rifle to slip on recoil in my hands when I sweat.

Yes, most probably they will make checkering on order, but still.... Just offering a practical angle.

Hey my friend, I am returning to SA for a Cape Buffalo hunt in June 26. My outfitter has suggested Highveld but I have read some poor reports. Wondering how satisfied you were with your mounts from them? Thanks in advance.
Finally back to somewhat normal I missed reading the messages and posts

Hi PaulB,
I have a Ballard Arms Model 1885 chambered for .333 Jeffery Flanged. Do you have any idea where I can get ammo for this?

I am new to this forum so I am sorry if I am doing something wrong!
Thank You!
