SAPS Question

It's pretty straightforward. Here is what needs doing:
  • Page 1 of 8 nothing
  • Page 2 of 8 Client info; fill out E1-25
  • Page 3 of 8 only F only clients (owner) details
  • Page 4 of 8 G only (import info)
  • Page 5 of 8 Details of firearm and ammo
  • Page 6 of 8 Client needs to sign (at the airport in front of a police officer) + details, do not fill out K
It's a slow process but politeness, good manners and a jovial sense of humour will make it pass faster than rolling of the eyes, tapping of fingers, huffing and sarcasm.

The SAPS office has just had a lick of paint as well with some mounts on the walls and looks better for it.

Hope that helps

And forms MUST be done in BLACK ink. They are very strict about that. No kidding. Don't ask. Africa is about the adventure. Flying with guns just adds to it. A different kind of stalking, execution, and putting it in the salt. Let a pro put you on the SAPS sticks and it will all come together when you sign the form.
Using black ink makes it a legal document. Any other color will render any document not legal.

I'm staying/ being picked up by Africa Sky, who also offers rifle service. Any idea if their service is comparable? Or is it really Henry and his team's experience that makes the difference?
I am sure it is fine. Folks when you arrive bleary eyed after those long flights having someone who has it all done for you is a plus.

Well, any change in decor would have been an improvement. That police station definitely had a third world look to it. Very dumpy. Do they have a private security company handling things now? Didn't look like policemen last year. And I'm pretty sure the big boisterous outgoing fella running the show (kind of a scaled down Shaq O'Neal) was private security. Dressed in civies. He remembered me by name from previous trips. Impressive. Quite a change from the grumpy big gal in charge during my first trip.

SAPS is still SAPS but transport around the airport of firearms is seemingly managed by 'Eagle Eye' Security - all uniformed. They also run the internal flights firearms office. To be honest, apart from moving at glacial speed (something to factor in when timing connecting flights) I've found them largely fit for purpose.

Longest i have ever waited with a client for his rifle permit was maybe 40 minutes. Usually around 20 minutea if they not too busy
