Ruger No.1

Yep! If full house .458 Win loads suck, then the Lott must suck bigly!! No thanks!
@sestoppelman
The Lott in a No1 isn't to bad even with full house loads.
Compared to the Whelen you definitely know you ain't in Kansas Dorothy in the recoil department but still very manageable even for a broken down old fart like me.

If it isn't 22" I will eat my John Deere tractor without any dipping sauce.

psssst....Toby....there is a 416 Taylor for sale in the classifieds....

:LOL::ROFLMAO::D
@tarbe I hope your hungry. The tyres may get a bit chewy but I'm sure a man of your capabilities will handle it.

So, just a question here. I have yet to hunt buffalo and I have never fired a Ruger No1. But… I would think the whole single shot thing would not be good for DG where quick follow up shots could be essential. Educate me.

I am guessing the best, quick follow-up shot (should one be needed) will come from the PH standing beside you!

@migrabill
With practice you can get a second shot off pretty darn quick with a No1.

True… but I’d rather provide my own.

Of course you do! We all do.

Our best bet is to make a stellar first shot, to avoid putting the PH in the spot where he feels the need to throw down.

If our first shot is not great, all bets are off. The PH will be ready to jump in, whether we want him to, or not!

I was listening to a podcast with a PH, I think it was Kevin Robertson, but a course they had set up for training one of the fastest times was a Ruger No.1. Basically his second shot was slower than a double, but not much slower than a bolt gun. His third put him ahead of doubles. He ended up ahead of bolt guns after shot 4. That being said, probably not your average guy doing it, but like anything practice can make it efficient
