Maybe, but over the last couple of weeks I've noticed a little bit of a slowdown on a lot of bids on stuff on GB? Maybe bidders are getting exhausted with the asking prices or just in general? I know I am.

I know, but I've been surprised at not seeing any initial bids on some items that I thought were very fair deals. Just thought it was strange given the past couple of years of feverish buying on GB and elsewhere?

The last couple of years have certainly not been normal. Something else to consider is that most of today's shooters are not hunters and have little appreciation for nicely made hunting rifles. The tactical stuff is their cup of tea and sells very well. If I didn't already have 3 338wms I would have bought that myself. It is a very nice rifle!

But this one has a "quarter rib"? Not sure what the exact purpose of that is, but yours doesn't have one, so maybe this one will shoot better?

As I understand, the differences in the subject rifle are for looks and have nothing to do with firing a cartridge or the accuracy of the rifle. My M77 seems to have all that is needed for hunting and that is why my older brother, Bob, bought it. When he passed away, I inherited the rifle and learned to shoot it. Bob had wanted to take it to Africa, so I took it on my first African hunt; and it did well. Six shots took six animals for me PLUS one more shot took an Eland my hunting buddy wanted. I also shot my Colorado 6x6 elk with it.
The rifle is a keeper.

Definitely sounds like a keeper!

Sweet. I had a 270 Win and the stock was cracked in the wrist when it was shouted to me. I didn’t notice until later.the seller said not his problem so I shipped it to river and they but a new stock on it but off a lightweight not this beautiful piece of wood.

kind of have a hankering for this … @ $2,500 ish?

Is yours the first model tang safety rifle? I took one of those in .338 on my first RSA trip in 2009. Our alternate PH at Eden also carried one.

Auction went off at $2175 plus shipping and receiving which is a solid deal on that package for sure!!!

If we are talking about the quarter rib, its to help with fast and accurate sighting on shouldering the rifle. Typically used for shorter shots and or heavy brush etc. Same principle as a nice rib on a shotgun barrel etc. There are a couple postings on it here on the AH and then a brief explanation at bottom of pics here:

Guess its like anything else...personal preference, but 1/4 ribs are to provide a solid proper base for express sights and to bring up sights to same level as eye on shouldering so that the front sight and rear sight are matched up more naturally to the eye for quicker shots.

I would never have guessed that as I never noticed the need on any of my rifles.

Yes it is and it fits me and works fine. All my shotguns have tang safeties and it seems natural.
I really like the .338 Mag Cartridge as a bridge from 30 caliber on to the big bores beginning with a 4.
