Has anyone heard any updates on taxidermy/dip and pack paperwork log jam? I have a mountain reedbuck and roan hung up in paper work purgatory. I read something earlier in the year about slower than normal paperwork clearance …

The log jam may just be the amount of clients your taxidermist has. There are a lot of outfitters and the good taxidermists get a lot of their business, creating a longer than usual wait period. Ask for updates to at least determine expectations. I've been waiting 18 months for mine, but the taxidermist has been providing updates all along the way. The good taxidermists are in high demand but they do not compromise on their quality. Still, hound them for info.

This may be a silly question but; is the TOPS paperwork on the roan all in order? They have different expiration dates than normal permits.

I have not heard other people mention a paperwork log jam across all of SA. My paperwork didn't seem to hit any jam and no other people I know of that hunted there this year have said theirs did either.

Not saying there isn't one, just saying I don't know anyone that was told that this year about their shipments.

When did you hunt and when did they start trying to ship your taxidermy?

Thereare aome backlogs at nature conservation offices
So when trophiesare in crates etc and readyto go for shipping all paperwork needsto get approved and permitsissued by naturecon this is where the delay hits
Its a gov department so we can expect nothing less!

My three skulls from August 2023 finally received govt approval last week. Nothing special: gemsbuck, springbuck, and impala. I'm in the hospital now and can't look after this till next week. Finally got crate dimensions so I can get estimates from shippers.

Use a good taxidermist and Badger Cargo in RSA and SSI here in USA. 8 months all shoulders and pedestals. kudu 2 nyala ,buff waterbuck. All top notch.

Thanks for the replies! I have heard from my taxidermist regularly and I have two friends using other taxidermists and they are hung up with Naturecon like Stuart suggests.

If there is one thing that is predictable in South Africa is their paperwork delays.

Do all crates with trophies need to get approved by naturecon, or is it only certain animals?

If it is only certain animals, which animals need their approval before shipping?

All of them need an export permit
Its nore about paperwork being in order
