RJ Renner 303 British

Hello all,
I recently had an old enfield 303 British that I had picked up at an estate sale for a couple hundred bucks. Someone had tried to turn it into a sporter along the way and it actually shot fairly well. After a model 70 375 reworked by Roger “RJ” Renner I got a wild hair and decided to send him my 303. After scouring the web, we found some pictures of some old Lee speed rifles by some of the well known outfits like Holland and Holland as well Rigby. Using these for an inspiration he created a pattern for the stock and then sourced a blank. His craftsmanship on the stock is second to none and it turned out better than I had expected. I was wanting it to have a true English look and he checked all of the boxes. For the metal, I loved the patina that a nearly 100 rifle had so he dismantled it and cleaned nearly a century worth of oil, dirt, and grease and got it functioning perfectly. He installed new iron sights but they are substantially easier to shoot than what was on it. I am very proud of my new rifle and it is a blast to shoot (no pun intended tended). There were grumblings of him being retired but I spoke with him over the weekend and he is far from it. I would recommend him to anyone looking for someone to work on a project rifle. This is my second rifle from him and both turned out extremely well.

Gorgeous work !! The Remington rear sight caught me by surprise, but it actually looks like it belongs.

Here are the pictures of my pre 64 model 70. It had a crack in the tang and he fixed it where you would never know it was there and then it was bedded and crossbolted and it shoots lights out. Hand loads are sub MOA. Also that is a factory standard grade stock; Mr Renner has a grain enhancement technique he does and it makes it look great

He does do great work !! I remember seeing a Renner rifle on a thread on here and I mentioned it looked like the grain was enhanced or figure added, folks responding didnt believe he did that (added figure), but to me it was obvious he did something. Can you elaborate on your knowledge of his "enhancement technique" ? This one is more subtle and looks great.

What all was changed on the rifle itself? And what model did you start with? I have a similar smle id like to give some new life to

The stock and the sights were all that were changed. Also, I ordered a 5 round magazine to make it look like a proper English Lee speed. It was a smle no.1 MKIII

Beautiful rifles! That 303 is special! RJ is awesome. He is building my African Medium Rifle in 9.3x62 currently from an Interarms Mark X. I have a Ruger 77 in 7x57 that he did in English Stalking style and another Mark X in 30-06 he converted into a full Germanic style. I love his work and the history lesson I get from him when I send him an old rifle.

It is a 5 round mag. We sourced it new from a company in England and he patina’ed it to match the rifle

I believe this is the rifle I am referring to. Very nicely done, but definitely looks like the grain was enhanced.

Looks amazing. I was comparing photos to a military rifle. Did he remove the stripper clip guide? Or was that done prior to sending in? See attached for reference.
