Renting Buffalo Rifle

Great info, thanks to everyone. I think in the end I will try to get a 375 used here in Canada (I can still use it for moose, bears and big northern deer) and see where I end of going and what the outfitter has. I rented a rifle my first plains game trip and it was fine except I would practice a bit to get used to the trigger (I shoot Sakos and Tikka's) and the gun I rented was a Browning, which was fine but had a different trigger pull. The other thing that complicated my situation is that a Canadian Flying through the US with a gun is almost as bad as flying through Britton! So while I love my rifles and would rather hunt with them, my guns are more of a tool for the hunt for me and it’s kind of fun to try new guns. And the money I would save of flights and renting the rifle would mean I could potentially spend more on another animal or a longer stay. So one of the deciding factors I guess will be what the outfitter has available for me to use. I'll choose an outfitter with workable guns. I will also insist on shooting it a bit more than a few shots off the bench to make sure I'm used to the trigger and cycling the action fast. Might me a few more bucks in ammo but seems silly to travel have way around the world to hunt and worry about 50-100 bucks to get used to a gun? One thing is for sure- and sorry for being preachy, but we all need to work to make sure that our kids can do this when they are old enough. I think it’s as important to African wildlife as is it’s for us.
Cheers and thank you for your help from the frozen north!

Dmyers, I shot this giraffe last year using Marius's .416 Rigby in a CZ 550 with KMG last year. I did not find the recoil bad at all and if you have no difficulties with a 12 gauge slug you will have no problems with the .416. I borrow my rifles when I hunt with Marius and don't see any problem with borrowing one as long as it is a reputable outfitter. I see you are from the Great White North as well and if you ever feel the need to get some big bore practice in I have a .375 CZ 550 you can always take out for a test drive at the range one day, provided we actually live close enough (Ottawa?)

Rod, you got your 375, Congrats!

Doug, had to scratch that big bore itch!

Rod and Marius,
Shot mine over the chronograph this weekend! It's going with me in 2017 (I'm tired of hearing it whimper when I walk by the safe!).

Marius: 470?? Did you get a double rifle? I hope so, you've worked hard and deserve it!

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
