Recommendation request for best quality double rifle take-down travel case

I always wonder about availability of a soft case on arrival or trying to pack one. I thought that if there was a soft case made of package memory foam it would solve my personal dilemma with this.
I saw one shotgun case like this that might work a while back but didn’t get the brand.
Thoughts?
On my recent trip I took my sons rifle and my two, in the tuff pack, in there soft cases, which were then available for use on the hunt. Worked well rifles were packed in tight and survived the return trip.

I use the Murray foldable case and it works great

Do you mean Murray leather? Or a different Murray?

Yea I always pack my rifles in their soft cases in my Pelican two rifle case. Only on one trip did I use my take down Blaser R8 Pelican case and then need to pack the soft case in my suitcase. Like I mentioned before the modern memory foam products that are so compressible makes me wish for a simple scoped rifle soft case that really packs down small. I suppose the market for such a thing is minuscule. Maybe a trip to the Shot Show is in order to find someone who will make it for me! I've had crazier ideas.
What started in some parts of Europe (like ammo being out of the suitcase which is Euro regs not IATA) is now in JNB and that is the forbidding of clothing in the rifle case. This somewhat recent rule makes the TuffPak not as useful as it once was. I know some get by with it but I've had clients regularly being called out for any clothing in the gun case at the airport.
Regards,
Philip

I pack a very lightweight thin soft case in the hard case on top of my GunFoam. All I’m trying to do with it is be compliant if I’m in a location that requires a case and prevent the deepest of scratches.

For my shotguns I have one that is a single thickness of canvas with no padding. Wish I could find one that would fit a scoped rifle. It rolls up extremely small.
And it will close easily even with the soft case sitting on top of the foam? Thanks.

I know Dick and have many custom products from him. From ammo carriers to my Double rifle slip he made from my rhino I love all of it!
I was just wishing for a case that compressed down really small.
Thanks!

Curious- why four locks? I used 2 and was not stopped by TSA, so I want to know...
I can't believe it has been over 8 years since this post! I also can't believe more have not utilized my solution to the "a lock in each hole" regulation. This reg came from people flying with those cheap Plano type cases that tend to pry open. This is one of the reasons I am such an advocate for Pelican rifle AND ammo cases.

GunFoam.com is selling the Pelican 1700 with custom foam for $470. If you happen already own a 1700 (or find a good deal on a used one), you can have just the foam for $225. FYI - There are two generations of Pelican 1700. Gen 1 has a fixed center handle in the middle of the latches and only one handle opposite the wheels. Gen 2 has a folding center handle and two more handles on the ends. This is my (gen 2) 1700 with a Blaser R8, scope, sling and quad sticks.

How do the custom cut the foam perfectly like that? Do you send them the weapon? Surely, folks are not shipping double rifles to them?

Check it out on their website. It’s a cool system. You take pictures of each item then upload them and arrange them online. They review what you’ve done and even make some tweaks such as adding finger grooves.

They have the own line of cases as well which look nice.

The Tourbon case above lays flat on top of this setup and the case closes easily.

@Wildwillalaska - Send me a DM if you want some pointers on doing the GunFoam thing. Here is a pic of a double & traditional bolt action rifle and another with a R8 (with two barrels) & double in a Pelican 1700 both by @One Day...

FWIW cabelas and bass pro both have the 1700 on sale right now for $265… tack on the additional $10 I get from cabelas for the veteran thing and it’s $239… so I’m heading that direction for my wife’s double (will also include other “hunting” kit in there… binos, knife, etc)…

I’ve always had great luck with pelican products… my primary checked bag suitcase is a pelican.. and I’ve got a couple of pelican rifle cases we use for our bolt actions and shotguns… literally dozens of international trips on the rifle cases and I’d guess a hundred or more international flights on the suitcase… all are scarred and have been badly beaten by the baggage apes… but all are still going strong and properly protecting my stuff… I’m definitely a believer in pelican.

Sir, I think I have been writing to you about the purchase of the HK 639 rifle under an email "Tt Jake." If this is you, then I am truly interested. I am just trying to verify identify. Tt Jake is asking for a cash transaction. No disrespect intended, Just trying to verify who I am talking to. Thank you. Respectfully. Dan

Hey my friend, I am returning to SA for a Cape Buffalo hunt in June 26. My outfitter has suggested Highveld but I have read some poor reports. Wondering how satisfied you were with your mounts from them? Thanks in advance.
Finally back to somewhat normal I missed reading the messages and posts
