Hi went to the range today (elk season is open on private land). I took the 500 Jeffery and my Mark V 270 Weatherby (my BDL 270 Win replacement since I gave the BDL to my youngest). The 500 is more accurate, more fun to shoot. My CZ 500 Jeff shot three holes touching at 100 yards (sighted in 2.5" high at 100) without even trying hard. The 270 Bee shot about 1.25" groups, good enough, but just can't seem to bond to it. Going to trade it for a 44 Mag or 454 Casull revolver. I've got a friend who wants it and he has a treasure trove of revolvers, this sounds like a 4 Scotch trading session ...

Good luck with the trades! Is the scotch a bribe or to fog his reasoning? lol

wish i could find a load that my Gibbs would shoot like that! i can get close with 135gr of RL-26 under a 570gr A-frame but the velocity is 2350fps which is a bit rough in the recoil department. i ended up sticking with 134gr which yields 2300fps on the dot and while the recoil is more managable the accuracy is only "ok" (1.5" at 50 yards).

its amazing how much of a difference 50fps makes when shooting a 570gr bullet!

Colorado,

I think those two groups are actually exactly the same size. The jeff just covers more space! :E Big Grin:

Kidding... I'm heading to CO for second rifle not too far from Durango, near Vallecito Reservoir actually. Can't wait.... hope this season is better for us than the last couple have been.

Good luck on your hunt! We drew private land cow tags (started last week, ends in January, we have 20 acres in Guffey, CO and neighbors with land) so we can go up weekends since both sons can't take time off from college. Shots won't exceed 250 yards where we hunt so the 500 is just fine at those ranges.

Thanks! You too!

Although with your sons it is already a successful hunt.

Where we will be it is thick and overgrown. You can get a shot over 100 yards, but it isn't likely. Just the little .30/06 for me. Please don't tell Matt.... :E Frightened:

He will :A Ill:

Then :E Temper Tantrum:

And finally :A Blowup:

IF YOU DON'T COME UP WITH ANY .458, I WILL TRY AND GET MY KID TO PACK SOME UP FOR YOU BUT PROBABLY WOUDN'T BE TILL THIS WEEKEND AND GO OUT NEXT WEEK.

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
