Question About Boots

I have spent a boatload on boots over the years. I even had a custom pair of Courtney‘s in hippo that I hunted with on four different safaris. For some reason, my feet have either grown or simply cannot use the Courtney boots anymore. On a Safari last year, after a couple weeks of wearing them (my feet were aching) which required me to switch boots.

I bought a pair of the Jim greens last year in Pretoria as well. I have liked them and wear them much more than I have my Courtney’s. I ended up selling my lugged Courtney Selous boots to a local guy who loves them. They just never fit me perfectly 100%. I took the Jim greens to Africa this past summer and they were perfectly fine and comfy. My only regret was changing the insoles last minute before I left. That was absolutely a stupid DA thing to do. I ended up taking the new inserts out after day 2, and using what came with them and they worked perfectly fine! However as we were headed to airport we stopped at Cabanas or some curio store in Jburg. They had a set of the Courtney safari in the two tone in my size. I tried them on and dang they fit better, so they came home…

I think Courtney boots are very comfortable and lightweight but not very durable . While buff hunting in Australia’s NT the glue holding on the rubber sole of a fairly new pair of Courtney boots failed mid stalk and left me flapping around for a whole afternoon. Once I got back to camp I wrapped gaffer tape right around the boot and carried on . Very disappointing a bad fail . I still own a few pairs of Courtney’s but I don’t hunt in them anymore .

Really curious how the Jim Green Ranger Boots compare to the Courtney Boots.

How’s the fit, quality, and anything else you care to mention about the two brands.

I have not read the reply's. The only way you will know how they compare is to wear them yourself. Over the years I have found/come to the conclusion foot wear is so individualistic the only way you can tell is to wear them and cover many miles in all terrain with them.
Its no good if they will last a million miles if they are not comfortable for you. I have had a pair of relatively cheap boots that I did not need to break in and wore them out over several years. I wish I had of bought 2 or 3 pair as they were discontinued not long after I got my pair. Now I wear Meindl boots.

As a follow up, I received the Jim Greens I ordered, they are heading back for a refund. They just did not fit my feet and ankles. I had Jim at ASC order me some Courtney's to my specs like the last 2 pair I have worn out over the last 3.5 years. I have found the safari buffalo with ripple sole works for me as a daily work shoe and will stick with it.

I’m a big fan of the GoRuck Macv 2 boot. Light. Tough enough. Very little break in required.

I wore my Merrell's in Limpopo a couple weeks ago. They did fine, they're just too warm for 80º+ afternoons.

I ordered a pair of Jim Greens, they arrived yesterday, but I am in Baton Rouge for the week. My issue is there are almost on shoes that really fit my very long, very narrow feet. I started another thread about this, I'll almost certainly need to buy some custom orthotics to get them to not flop around on my feet.

I gave my PH quite a generous tip, but I wanted to tip him more and lacked the cash. So I got home and ordered him a pair of those 2 tone Courteney safaris. He's pretty excited, I hope they're comfortable for him.
