if you use a straight tube classic scope like a 1-4 or 1-6 variable with 30mm rings, do you use low rings?

It seems that you're willing to look at your barrel through the scope if you choose a low ring setup with a 30mm tube. Is that the norm or do you prefer using medium or high rings to avoid looking at your barrel through the scope at low power?

I choose the ring height depending on the rifle stock. Whatever rings give me the most natural and comfortable shooting position.
If I close my eyes and put the rifle to my shoulder the sight picture should be right there when I open my eyes again. If that is low, medium or high depends on the rifle :)

But I prefer seeing the barrel on low magnification over having to adjust myself to the hight of the scope.
An adjustable stock does the trick too though :)

What he said!

I always place a scope as low as possible. Will use low rings every time unless the scope will interfere with bolt handle or come in contact with barrel. I hate having to raise my face off of the stock, for a variety of reasons.

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
