Good day AH community,

We can hardly believe the 2025 season is already drawing to a close - it feels like it’s flown by in a flash! A huge thank you to the incredible AH community for your continued support this year. As always, you’ve been an absolute pleasure to host. We hope you’re all doing well and enjoying the memories of the adventures you embarked on this season and if not, we hope you’re already planning your next one!

Our Sable hunting is something we take great pride in at Bayly Sippel Safaris. The trophies we hunt are the result of years of careful thought, dedication, and management. The genetics we’ve developed across our properties are truly exceptional, not only in horn length but also in the dark jet black coloration of our animals. Our mature bulls typically display that iconic, pitch-black sheen that makes a Sable such a magnificent trophy.

We hunt our Sable with a focus on age and maturity. While Sable are fast-growing and can be hunted young, we prefer to target older bulls that have passed their prime - preferably animals that show secondary growth and character. Our hunts take place on large, self-sustaining herds across our exclusive properties, some spanning over 12,000 acres. On one property alone, we proudly maintain a thriving, self-sustaining population of more than 120 Sable. It’s an unforgettable experience to drive through the bush and see breeding herds, lone bulls, bachelor groups, and nursery herds all thriving in their natural environment.

Our hunting areas are conveniently located within a 2½ to 4-hour drive from OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg. We personally meet you at the airport before traveling together to the hunting area. Accommodation options range from luxurious 5-star lodges to our beautiful tented camp, offering that timeless, old-school “Hemingway-style” safari experience.

If you’re searching for big, exceptional Sable, this is the hunt for you. We don’t impose size limits because our genetics speak for themselves.

As an interesting side note: the Sable antelope was once known as the “Royal Antelope,” reserved only for royalty. Today, thanks to decades of dedicated conservation, it stands as one of South Africa’s great success stories. Through responsible breeding and population management, this once-rare species has flourished — and is now within reach for the passionate hunter.
