I have finally gotten a chance to do some preliminary load work and function checking on the Sako Brown Bear in 416 rigby. As far as the rifle itself goes there is a lot of things I like. Barrel band, short bolt throw, very nice trigger, holds four rounds in the mag, I very much like the 21.75" barrel. It is heavy and short and handy . It does have a severe dislike for Norma brass, however with hornady it feeds and ejects beautifully. With the Norma it feeds fine but it seems almost like the extractor groove on the brass isn't deep enough, it wants to barely eject or sometimes even leave it in the chamber. The hornady has very positive extraction and ejection. I'm running the leupold QR base and rings in medium and so far no issues with brass hitting the scope. I will thoroughly test this later with some rapid fire from some wierd positions but it all looks good so far. Recoil pad is unimpressive but if that is the worst thing it has going incan live with that.
Test fire today was with 400gr Cutting edge solids and 400gr Swift Aframes. Accuracy looked very promising and both rounds were hitting at the same POI. There is a pic of the initial soft solid combo then I fired another soft and solid into the same group. This was at 50yds, doing preliminary in the backyard and then we will take her to the range later this week. Both rounds registered exactly 2409fps with 92gr of RL 16 and Fed 215 primers.
