I keep planning and subsequently procrastinating ordering some custom gun foam inserts for a few pelican cases, planning for a single double in a 1700, two doubles in a 1700 or likely 1720 and double/bolt combo in a 1750.

Sitting around the house miserable with a cold and watching the blowing snow outside, decided to distract with loading and other activities….which led to gunfoam with a trip approaching. As I was measuring and taking photos, I had the questions of how folks prefer to orient their doubles when traveling abroad. I’ve cut foam interiors on a few cases flying with my doubles but always just oriented them on their sides, so if looking down into th4 open case, the barrels were on side, and seems the only or at least best way if traveling with RMR attached. This next trip I may roll without and shoot open iron sights, and likely why I was thinking about it.

Also, assume set the butt section with cheekpiece up?

For barrels and butt, any particular reason you chose one option over the other?

Here is my redneck-engineered interior from Zim trip in October, with barrels sideways as I describe them, and then another forum member had posted this other photo in another thread, and his are barrel rib down. I know some have cases set to travel with rib up and have for years. Not sure their is a right or wrong way, so more curious of what folks chose, why, and likely help me sort through which option will prove best for my situation.

AND…have folks who like to include knife, multitool, shooting sticks, tripod, etc., in their rifle case caught grief recently?

Cheers gents.

The only feedback I have is if possible position your guns so that the serial number is visible without removing the gun. Makes the customs checks easier sometimes.

Exactly. The idea is to make the inspector’s job easier, not harder. Also increases the chances that things will stay in or put back in their proper places where they will be less likely to be damaged if the case gets tossed around.

Might want to wrap the bolt in a rag or neopene bolt carrier in case it shifts and comes loose so it does not scratch the rifles.

A silicone wipe down rag tucked into one of the corners can be handy.

Beautiful rifles.

I have done my combi case (double & bolt) this way in the past.

I am just about to change case and I will for sure flip things around to ensure that the serial numbers are visible w/o removing the weapons from the case for identification

I had a similar thread on this. In the past I have been a big friend of the Daka foam grid system for my road trips when I could pack as much as I want.

Since I am planning on some air travel, I have decided the most practical way is two guns in soft cases inside a larger SKB case. This will allow me to have soft case for each gun while traveling in the field, but not have them take up any room in my checked bag.

Pictured is the Daka system in a Pelican 1750, as well as in the Magpul LR53, and finally my two soft cases inside the SKB hard case.

Good morning,
Did you hunt w Leeuwkop at their ranch or in Zimbabwe? The ranch looks awesome, but I'll be in Zimbabwe for buffalo and whatever else we dig up.
What did you hunt for?
Vaccines?
What rifle did you use?
I feel like I need a good cotton safari shirt and an ammo belt to make the hunt feel right!
How often did you shoot prior to going?
Did you use sticks for shooting practice?
