Pre-64 Winchester, dilemma…

I think the general consensus is clear; go buy this rifle and don't look back. If they're asking $1,600, you could offer $1,500; but I sure wouldn't let a hundred bucks stand in my way. Your only regret with this rifle might be later in life when you look back and wish you had bought it. Go get it, and post pictures here as a follow-up.

It should go without saying, but if you buy the rifle and later on decide that you no longer want it, clearly there is a pre-64 fan club here who would take it off your hands.

My dad’s 06 has a 3X Weaver with a post. He said it was a ‘fast’ sight. I think he meant he could get on target quickly. Among his hunting buddies he had the reputation of being able to shoot running deer. I found the rifle was able to read my mind. It was supernatural accurate.
Give the old scope a chance.

Buy it now! You will never regret owning a pre-64 model 70. I have a pre-64 Featherweight that is all original and is topped with a 2.5-8x Leupold. It’s a wonderful rifle and very accurate.

You will be glad to own and hunt with such a fine rifle.

I have been looking for a third rifle to round off my collection of 470 ne and a 9.3X62.
I have found one pre 64, 1950 model in 30-06 with everything original and an old 2.5 x Weaver scope. The stock is all original, the rifling excellent (nice and shiny) blueing very nice no rust that I could visually see.
Overall in very good condition
Price being asked is $1600 ..
what do you guys recommend?

I just bought a 1948 for $800 a couple weeks ago, in excellent condition, market seems a little soft right now

Just remember that the classic rifle that seems a bit overpriced today will look like a bargain in a couple of years.
