Hey all, I've been learning tons about the .375 on this website. People seem to be very happy with the 270 grain TSX for general purpose big/dangerous game, and I can actually get it unlike other super-premiums.

AIUI, 2700 fps is a well-liked MV for that bullet (though I have the Guide Gun with 20 inch barrel). I can't imagine wanting any more oomph than that.

I've been goofing around with QuickLoad and looking at Hodgdon's data center, I don't see any clear winners of powder actually in stock here in the US.

And most of the posts which give handload data reference powders that are now Unobtainium (Re-15 etc) AFAICT. If somebody gives me a winning PowerBall lotto ticket, I'll buy Alliant and sort this nonsense out.

I probably ought to buy a jug of something in stock (H100V? 760?). Of what's available, what powders do you .375 Ruger fans recommend?

thx

I use H380, max load from Barnes data, the bullet seated a bit longer than their data. Have been using it since they published it in their reloading manual. I load the 270 LRX the same.
I would give the 760 a try myself. Mainly because I have a fair quantity of it.

I picked W760, 79.8gr. after running Quickload and Gordon's. I limit the pressure to 62K and then take the second fastest harmonic node sweet spot. I have the 20" Alaskan. It clocks 2714 FPS with this load with the 270 grains Barnes TSX or Hornady SP-RP. My fired case holds 102gr of water. I originally used R15, but when the scamdemic screwed up access to that, I went to W760.

I also use W760 / H414. I load on the lighter side for the 270 grain. Easy shooter.

I use CFE223 in Winchester cases and Federal 215 primer for 2800 FPS with the 270 grain TSX

H-570...an older powder perfect for big magnums.

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
