Many will disagree with me but I've always viewed anything >0.40 as a big bore.

I used to think my 375H&H was a big bore until I was shown the error of my ways.

The 375s I can agree with, the 40s still feel like they should be big bores.

Everything has been "scaled down" in caliber since the black powder days so the medium bores of 1900 are the new starting point of big bores today.
I agree, and posted that I think given the changes in paradigms with modern ammunition, that this can be neatly done in 2mm increments:

Why not:

Up to 6 mm (0.236 in): Very Small Bore / Varmint class
6 mm (0.236 in) to 8 mm (0.315 inches): Small Bore
8 mm (0.315 in) to 10 mm (0.394 in): Medium Bore
10 mm (0.394 in) to 12 mm (0.472 in): Large Bore/Big bore
12 mm (0.472 in) and up: Very Large Bore

I think this shows pretty good general accord with traditional nomenclature around Imperial calibers, and also puts some nice round Metric numbers on those traditional classes while elaborating at the small and large ends. Not all big bores are stopping rifles i.e. .44 Magnum and .45-70 rifles. Stopping rifles are stopping rifles.

I ran out of poll choice options and I have a feeling that 577 NE is as big as most people are willing to go. Of course there are plenty of options not listed above that I'm sure are fan favourites among many here.

I'm surprised at all of the medium bores in the list (416, 404, 458, etc) lol Where's the troll emoji?

Hey my friend, I am returning to SA for a Cape Buffalo hunt in June 26. My outfitter has suggested Highveld but I have read some poor reports. Wondering how satisfied you were with your mounts from them? Thanks in advance.

Hi PaulB,
I have a Ballard Arms Model 1885 chambered for .333 Jeffery Flanged. Do you have any idea where I can get ammo for this?

I am new to this forum so I am sorry if I am doing something wrong!
Thank You!
