Okay, I'm trying to wrap my head around this one. Trump claims the news article from Reuters stating the US Army has used up its supply of long range precision missiles is false. And in the same breath he says the govt will vigorously "hunt down" the "leakers" who blabbed the baloney and have them jailed for "treason." So ... let me see if I understand what he's saying. Someone has "leaked" some strategic information that's not true. Which means it's not strategic information at all. Just misinformation. If broadcasting misinformation was a treasonous offense, Trump would be wearing a striped suit making license plates ... instead of a fool of himself every day. I'm sure he can find another blonde lawyer with big boobs and no brains who will be happy to waste millions of tax dollars chasing this paper tiger through the courts. Just silly.

So more to worry about with AI....just wait for some lunatic to get it to come up with a new deadly virus.....maybe the way it destroys the world....

Did you bother to read the definition of treason?

The act of betraying your country.

If the intent is to do harm to the US.. whether the information is true or false.. it is treasonous.

As to whether or not the person can be prosecuted federally for treason.. that falls under article 3 which requires levying war against the United States. Or giving aid or comfort to its enemies.

That’s an extremely broad definition and easy to get a charge filed under..

If in any way it can be construed that leaking information, true or false, helps Iran (by influencing members of congress or the American public to change its position on iran), a treason charge can be brought forward…

Getting a conviction may be a different story since treason convictions have typically been held out for the most serious offenses..

That said if the leaker is a military member or a contractor to the DoD.. it’s a guarantee their clearance will be revoked and they will be terminated at a minimum.. potentially jailed on a variety of other charges (speaking to anything classified or going public with anything classified or remotely related to anything you’ve been read in on with a clearance has several different charges thst can be associated).. the information doesn’t have to be correct.. it just has to be information you were privileged to under your clearance…

Trump on the other hand as POTUS. Can classify or declassify any information he chooses on the spot, and is therefore exempt…

You’d think a guy that claims to have been an MP for a couple of years and claims to have made a habit of teaching General Officers and Special Forces soldiers their place if they didn’t respect his authority would know this lol…

Here's what US law defines as treason.
The United States Code at 18 U.S.C. § 2381 states:
Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.
So ... publishing misinformation would only be treason if the intent was to give "aid and comfort" to an enemy of the United States. What if the intent was to discredit the president? Is that treason? Or just ordinary politics? To make this episode of alleged misinformation stick as treason would be a stretch ... way out in left field. But I'm sure Trump will waste millions of tax dollars investigating sources that leaked false information. Why?

If the exposé published by CBS is true, and I suspect it is (i.e. Trump is lying which would not be unusual), would Trump be guilty of treason for broadcasting falsehoods? Doesn't him discrediting the executive branch during war "give aid and comfort" to US enemies?

Under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), aiding and abetting the enemy is prosecuted under Article 103b (10 U.S.C. § 903b), historically known as Article 104. [1, 2, 3]

Prohibited Conduct Under Article 103b
A service member or military person can be found guilty under this article if they knowingly do any of the following without proper authority: [1]
    • Aid or attempt to aid the enemy with arms, ammunition, supplies, money, or other items.
    • Harbor, protect, or give intelligence/information to the enemy.
    • Provide military education, military training, or tactical advice to the enemy.
    • Communicate, correspond, or hold any direct or indirect intercourse with the enemy. [1]

Penalties and Scope
    • Maximum Punishment: Because this is a severe security offense, a conviction under Article 103b can carry the death penalty or such other punishment as a court-martial or military commission may direct. [1, 2]
    • Accomplice Liability: General accessory and accomplice principles under the UCMJ (such as Article 77 for aiding and abetting) interact with substantive offenses, but directly supporting or facilitating adversary forces falls firmly under the specific prohibitions of Article 103b

Hopefully they find who is leaking the quantities of weapons we hold and they are at a minimum sent to prison for a long, long time.

Can you imagine soldiers pinned down at a FOB under withering fire and one of their buddies tells the enemy that they’re about out of mortars and ammo.

If the enemy holds out a little longer, the FOB will be out of ammunition. I know where I would use my last bullet.

"attempt to aid the enemy...with money". Doesn't that mean that CAIR and other organizations raising monies for groups/nations listed as terror organizations are treasonous in their acts?

Over 50% of Democrats identify as socialist according to a recent poll.
It never ceases to amaze me how much nonsense is posted on forums like this. The number is somewhere between 17-20% of democrat and "democrat leaning" voters. Whatever the definition of that is. So in reality a fraction of these made up numbers you guys keep posting. As if that's even a bad thing. Ohhhhh workers rights...terrifying! Healthcare and collective bargaining....oh no!

I tend to believe you are correct on the 20% if asked. However just look at the voting results and in many of these races the voting has shown in the neighborhood of 48% to 52% are okay with what the DSA stands for.

Thats because in our current two-party system the voters have the option of the left candidate or the right. And many of them would rather have at least some of what the DSA is offering than tax cuts for the rich and no healthcare.

Fixed it for you.

And many of them would rather have free stuff handed to them on a socialist platter, instead of working hard for the things they need in life.

Most of us would rather see tax cuts for the rich corporations, then to see our tax dollars being wasted on lazy freeloaders.

Hey BIGEASY I thought your guy BHO fixed healthcare.., never mind he had to raid $700 bn from SS/Medicare to balance the fake books to sell Obamacare to begin with. I also see your guy is the obnoxious fat slob billionaire Mafioso wannabe from Chicago… makes sense.

I sometimes don't think he's very grounded in reality. I think it's due to his extreme hubris. If he thinks folks aren't unhappy with him, he's not paying attention. I don't know that I would say I am angry, but, as a Republican, I am dissatisfied. For sure the Republican side of Congress has, IMO, been something of a shit show, but I think he's made it far worse through his ego fueled decisions, and the time to change the narrative ahead of the midterms may already have passed.

“They’re angry at Republicans, but they’re not angry at me,” Trump told Punchbowl News.

Also from the article:

A Quinnipiac University poll released last week found that only 32 percent of registered voters said they support how Trump has handled his second term in office.

This whole missile inventory debate really isn't for those who like most of the media are basically clueless about munitions - particularly rocket propelled munitions - even CNN or FOX reporters and former E4 MPs. The critical path for acquisition is shelf life of the munition. All of our interceptors and battlefield missiles such as ATACMS or its replacement the PrSM (fired from the same launcher) have solid rocket boosters.

Production and acquisition of these systems is predicated on maintaining a steady baseline inventory of the weapons. Acquisition is established to create and maintain that inventory through normal attrition - such as training and shelf-life. Obviously, that is not the cheapest acquisition model because assembly lines must maintain a rather slow annual output. However, because no one knows when the next conflict will take place, buying a huge quantity over a short period simply establishes an eventual inventory collapses due to aging at a critical point.

Therefore, though DOD has stepped up procurement of various expended munitions, that acquisition will still be metered over the next several years, not because the missiles are difficult to build, but to insure no artificial expiration cliff has been built into the inventory.

It also looks like both Northrop and Lockheed Martin are working with DOD through a series of new contracts to build and stockpile those components that do not have a critical shelf life such as electronics hardware and missile bodies which will speed up future assembly.

But the notion that the inventory can't be replaced quickly mantra coming from a lot of the reporting and influence bloviators is simply wrong. Instead, it is bad weapons inventory management to procure such systems too quickly.
