Quebec can not separate from Canada, most of its money comes in the form of transfer payments from Alberta’s resource taxation. It gets the most dollars and pork of any province from the federal government.
If Alberta separates and takes Saskatchewan with it , it will be a country of its own. It’s not going to give up the third largest oil reserves in the world to anyone, they are tired of Libiturds giving all of their money to Quebec, they aren’t giving it to the USA.
But all of that is moot as we are being sold to the CCP as we speak, skidMark Canage is there now on his knees begging to be taken over as the Orange Man is bad. I firmly believe Canada is the greatest threat to USA security, we have become a 3rd world country, importing millions of people with absolutely no vetting. The government is doing its best to disarm the population that will put up resistance to full blown communism.
If the US is truly concerned with security forget Greenland and take Canada first, you share a large border with an agent of the CCP.

I don't know how closely you follow Canadian politics but just because the PQ could form the next provincial government doesn't remotely mean that they will likely separate.

You may know there have been two failed referendums in Quebec in the past and current polls on that issue are worse now then they were in those two losing efforts.

On top of that the legal barriers to Que separating are close to insurmountable. While it is difficult to give an exact number, a huge amount of the territory of Quebec is treaty or unceded indigenous lands. It could well be more than 90% including almost all of the land they use to generate power. And those nations are simply not interested in joining an independent Quebec, primarily because, true or not, Quebecers are perceived as being very racist towards native Canadians.

And don't even get me started on the constitutional issues involved.

I would bet a lot of money that Canada will remain essentially intact for the rest of my lifetime at least.

Edit: And for those who don't know we have a federal "separatist" party the Bloc Quebecois, or BQ, who are usually the third or fourth party and really just advocate for Quebec to get special treatment and more money, although they theoretically are in favour of independence. They feel that the Clarity Act prevents separation and seek to repeal it.
I agree. In fact, Canada, outside of certain treaty areas, until about the 1930s was mostly indigenous land. It was all converted in the last 100 years or so. None of these groups wants to leave. It is a credit to their culture that they are only looking for ways to move forward together. So far the Feds have largely played politics with this. The failure of our leadership to really grasp the enormous potential the First Nations are working towards is a major failing. Most non-native people see reconciliation as some sort of compensation or recompense. However, within a lot of these bands are very smart, entrepreneurial people who just want to get on with things. I personally believe that the Liberals will never move on reconciliation because the inevitable shift in political power will undermine Quebec’s leverage within our political framework.

Thats actually where things differentiate substantially in the US..

the oil and gas industry in the US get significant tax breaks from the federal government and in most cases pay way below the statutory 21% rate.. they get breaks on intangible drilling costs, percentage depletion, etc.. and many O&G firms are averaging closer to 12%.. and its not unheard of for some firms to not pay ANY federal tax as some segments of the industry are given so many subsidies that they have a negative tax rate, and others get so many tax credits for foreign transactions that it completely offsets any US tax liability..

Im sure DC would love to get its paws on more O&G dollars in the US.. but so far the lawyers and executive teams with the O&G mega firms have done a very good job of warding off the congressmen and keeping the dollars for themselves..

Quebec has enormous political clout. They won’t leave. That was a thing of the 60s, 70s and 80s. A lot of has changed - Francophones now control Quebec and Quebec effectively controls Canada. And Quebec culturally leans left and towards centralized control. That is what you really see in the elections.

All provinces, except Quebec, have dealt off bits of their constitutionally enshrined jurisdiction in a piecemeal way for federal tax money. Why this matters is because it centralizes power in Ottawa. I find it interesting that Ottawa legally has very limited powers within our borders compared to the provinces. Now that the provinces look to Ottawa for tax money, Quebec holds sway with the number of seats it has in the federal parliament. If all the provinces stridently maintained their authority like Quebec has, Canadians would be a lot less concerned with the folks in Ottawa. Now that Alberta is playing by Quebecs rules everyone is having a meltdown.

We have world standing left now?
You betcha! The US is still the most consequential nation. Ask Maduro or Kahmenei, Castro or for that matter Ursula Von der Leyen. Unfortunately, Trump has become an unguided missile. As much as a headache to our allies as a friend. Spasmodic unpredictability is regrettable but it doesn’t change the fact that the US is indispensable and cannot be ignored.

Trump threatens to invoke the Insurrection Act to invade Minnesota with Guards because an ICE goon got whacked with a broom handle. But he had lunch while watching on TV as his "demonstrator" pals destroyed the Capitol building on January 6th. Didn't even need to invoke the Insrrection Act to do something about it because D.C. is a federal reservation. But he did nothing. Double standard. D.C. was his bailiwick and Minnesota is a Democrat's bailiwick.

Now Trump is making petty legal threats to the Chair of Fed Reserve because he won't agree to lower interest rates ... and launch hyperinflation. How childish.

I wonder if anyone still thinks that the US under Trump would actually honor article 5?

As I understand it he can’t make the US leave the alliance due to measurements put in place by congress after he first floated the idea during his first term but I guess congress cant force him to honor the call if it were to come?

Get off Facebook and touch some grass

Most of Canada are either center left or far left based on their policies and elections. As such Canada joining the USA would mean Democrats being in power for a very, very long time.
I would say that even the average conservative in Canada would be considered centrist south of the 49th

I think it depends on the issue.

Something over 80% of Canadians support the idea of universal healthcare, and similarly support a woman's right to abortion on demand. I think that would be left of center down south.

The only real remedy for Congress is to impeach. An abrogation of Article 5 would certainly put Trump in direct conflict with Congress. Whether this scenario comes true or not, I believe control of Congress is likely to switch in November. If so, the House will certainly impeach…..there’s plenty of grounds. Some grounds are frankly nonsense and some realistic. It’s less likely that the Senate will convict. , but who knows.

From the article:

Trump told the Reuters news agency that the Kremlin was ready to make a deal, while Kyiv was more hesitant. Asked why U.S.-led negotiations had not yet resolved the war, Trump responded: “Zelenskyy.”

The Ukrainian president said late Wednesday that he was being as “productive as possible” in negotiations, but that he expected more “energy” from the American side.

It was Russia who rejected the U.S. peace plan, not Zelenskyy, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said. Russia's only response was “further missile attacks on Ukrainian cities,” Tusk said Thursday, referring to a wave of attacks that have crippled Ukraine’s power grid, leaving millions in the dark.

The Kremlin, on the other hand, agreed with Trump’s assessment that Zelenskyy was at fault. "That is indeed the case," spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said.

Guess, Trump heard from his handlers in Kremlin once again.

Well, Vance is even more isolationist. If Trump would not honor Article 5, you think Vance will?

Not a chance in this world! One of the marvels of the Trump administration is how interventionist he is. Vance has been a staunch isolationist for as long as he has been in the public eye. I wonder how JD feels about this administration’s many “kinetic strikes”.

By the way, I’m not an isolationist and if I were President , I would have ordered these strikes too. Just saying that Vance’s prior positions must have evolved considerably, or he’s a very frustrated man.
