Got the 550 .416 Rigby in today!

The action screws were way loose. Felt a little wobble. I torqued the front screw to 35 and the rear screw to 30.

I am surprised by how fine or small the front sight post is. And black. Will have to fix that!

I have the B&C stock on the way, the 3 position safety, and the Timney trigger.

Even though I see how those upgrades make sense, I could definitely go with it just like this! (If it shoots well of course. And is reliable).

Nice rifle.

Speaking of front sight blades…both Harry Selby’s 416 and Tony Seth-Smiths 450 had teeny blades. When I handled the 450 I thought it was missing. Nope. Just very small and very low.

I posted on another thread earlier this week. Tip Burns put together a 404 Jeff for me (for my son) last year on a 550 with a B&C and 3 pos safety and it is well done. I have owned five or six rifles with CZ actions – most of them by Wayne./AHR and they are solid! I had one in .416 from AHR but sold it here last year. I think the only ones I have remaining in addition to my son’s, are a .550 Magnum and Lott, but no flies on the actions if tuned. Enjoy!

Edit; I forgot, I still have a .416 Ruger AHR did on a medium 550. I would trust my life to any of them.

Here's a photo of Tony receiving that Shaw & Hunter award at the 1970 annual EAPHA Dinner Dance. Tony Dyer, then EAPHA President and Princess (Sunny) von Auersperg presented it. I also attended the event.

Good Afternoon,
How firm are you on your Dakota 416? I am highly interested but looking at a few different guns currently.

Best,
BJ
