One case for two rifles, or two single rifle cases?

I’ve used a Pelican and another well built one similar to it for many years. I bought a Tufpak a SCI 3 years ago and I love it. The nice thing about it is the rifles are in a soft case, that you need while traveling to hunting areas. I also put in a one piece cleaning rod and clothes to pad it. Having to fly Air Canada for the start of my trip you pay $50 extra for packing a firearm and they don’t weight it.

I have used (domestically & internationally) the Tuffpak case. BIG advantage: It weighs little. Most gun cases themselves weigh a lot and are pretty bulky AND they scream: "GUN INSIDE". The model 1050 is the best for guns. Easily holds 2 rifles and LOTS of extra gear. Check the website & their videos. We have sold a bunch and ZERO complaints.

I have used a double rifle Americase and been very pleased with it. Also, you might think about bringing along soft cases for the guns while on the truck. I did that and it kept dust off of them and getting the rifles out of the soft case only took a bit longer than if there were just on the rack.

I agree with Johnny Blue on the Pelican case. I carried two rifles this year in one double rifle case. Placed guns diagonally in case, heal to toe, and cut foam with razor knife(fillet knife) for custom fit. Case did its job. In fact, guns came back perfect, but luggage guys must have thrown from plane because brand new case had war wounds, big scar on one corner, and a crack in case. Most would say case failed, but with lifetime Pelican warranty, got brand new case. Again, the rifles were in perfect condition and still spot on target even after abuse. Previous picture of 1750 model is what I got, and Cabelas will frequently run on sale.

I have used the Pelican case on 6 Safaris. Great performance. The cases have taken a beating but the rifles have come through without a scratch. I used to shoot shotguns competitively and traveled extensively with single and double America’s cases. They are outstanding as well.

Used a single case for two firearms, a bolt action and single shot. Flew from Calgary on Air Canada to Heathrow, then to JoBurg on South African Airways. Trigger locks on the rifles, lock every locking point on the case (two three or four or as many as required). I used identical keyed locks for the padlocks and identical keyed locks for the two trigger locks. I also carried the firearms with the scopes detached, another reason for QD rings. I wanted to carry the scopes in my carry on but Air Canada insisted that they be with the firearms, beats me to as why. Ammo was carried in a locked plastic ammo box, same lock as the firearms case, in Air Canada's case 11kg max for ammo case and contents. I think it was $50.00 additional charge to have firearms as baggage. Make sure that all your paper work and documentation is accurate and complete and the process should be relatively fast and efficient. Be at the airport at least two hours before normal check in requirements. Also make sure that your luggage (including your firearms) are checked in to your final destination, loaded on the plane at your departure point and picked up at your destination. Sorry about being long winded.

If they take down the way I think they do use a Double Shot Gun Case (Short for Take Downs) and a Duffel Bag. Place the Gun Case in the Duffel Bag. That way it's not immediately recognizable on the carousel as a gun.

I use an SKB double case. With 2 bolt guns I have to really jump on it to close it so nothing moves. It has provisions for 4 locks and I use Sesame 4 digit combo locks. They are big, heavy and no keys to lose. It has been to Africa twice and around the US a few times, has some baggage gorilla scars but no structural damage. Whatever you buy,get the very best you can afford. Much cheaper in the long run.

You end up paying per bag on most Airlines. I would consolidate as much as possible. If you can take both rifles in one case and cut down on the number of checked bags that’s my vote.

For international flights, you normally get two free checked bags. You pay a LOT for extra bags, and it is for each flight. It can add up quick.
I have always used one car for both rifles. If it is a just a hunting trip, honestly you can take everything you need on your carryon and rifle case. Something I have had to do more than once because my friends wife in RSA always needs me to just bring a “few” books over for her kids.
