on a lighter note...

Sopa de Perro? The ingredients have nothing to do with the name. There is no dog in Sopa de Perro. It normally has chicken or fish, depending on the region. Allegedly it is named for the nickname of a Spanish cook.
I wasn't trying to quote the name, but rather the first hand description of the eating experience.

Wife and I were there in 2018. Stayed away from some of those parts as we tried to act like we knew what we were doing while slyly watching how the other diners were eating the food so that we could follow their lead. At another upscale restaurant in Beijing, we were served hot water with the meal. We asked our Chinese friend if it was for tea but there was no tea on the table. We were told that it wasn’t for tea but that the hot water was considered an upscale delicacy! You ever run into that? Weird.

Another weird thing was soda pop was almost always served warm when out and about seeing the sights. Didn’t care for that either.
Ha! I’m going to bring that up in our next elk hunting camp. “Hey Jeff, the Chinese say hot water is a delicacy. Don’t you wish we had some? Nevermind, I’ll get you a warm beer so you can dream about it”. LOL

I have lived the majority of my adult life in Latin America, mostly in Colombia, and have worked in some of the more remote areas. I am rated as "native fluent" in Spanish and have a working knowledge of other indigenous languages (Quechua, Yuqui and Guarani). I have eaten a lot of strange things while working with indigenous tribes but have never seen or heard of anyone eating dog in Colombia or anywhere else in Latin America. I had this discussion with the Risaralda Historical Director and a group of Campesinos at a coffee farm this past weekend. They thought it was hysterically funny and like me, would love to know where you had this experience so we can all avoid that area.

I will be looking for a set of these when my .505 is done... sadly not cashed up right now for these. :(
Need anything in trade?
Cheers,
