Lets not be intellectually dishonest. By saying england was the worst among many. Is political. Even tho most of the arreas under british rule did better than they ever did on their own.

There is a section on this forum for politics and I suggest if you have anything valid to say, which I very much doubt, then that is the place.

I am happy to enter any debate with you, provided you first learn to spell, in that section.

Meantime, my life is too precious to waste arguing with idiots like you who I do not know nor care about, on the internet.

I tend to agree with @ Leslie Heterick
Look what they did to the lower classes and Aboriginal people in Australia.
I know it's the past but we need to acknowledge the past to learn from it. Unfortunately some don't learn from the past and keep making the same mist and expecting different results.
The British at least acknowledge they made mistakes but at the time they were there norm.

I personally believe, and most serious historians would agree, that the British Empire was on balance a great force for good in the world, as has been Western Civilization generally. The whole “colonizer” name calling by the woke multitudes is merely the latest manifestation. The whole attempt is representative of a specific philosophical fallacy called nunc pro tunc.

As the OP suggested, the politics thread would be an excellent place to hold that debate, and I would be happy to entertain it as well.

What the OP was generous enough to provide was a small window into the past that offers further understanding of the traditions that bring us to this forum - nothing more.

AUT was deemed Terra Nullius ( unoccupied) by the British which is and was a fallacy. Unfortunately the indigenous peoples of Australia still suffer from those ramifications.

Almost all multiple times and nearly always with cultural destruction or subjugation and often eventual assimilation of the current inhabitants. Australia is somewhat unique in that science generally agrees that the indigenous people met by the Arthur Phillip in 1788 were solely descended from the first human inhabitants entering the continent 50K years before. That said, the archeological record is pretty conclusive that the indigenous peoples of Australia and New Zeeland were warlike long before the arrival of the Europeans. Like the Sioux peoples driven onto the Great Plains by the Ojibwe and Cree peoples in the 18th century or Shaka's brutal conquests in Southern Africa, destruction was destruction whether perpetrated by fellow "natives" or Europeans.

I am no way personally defending the behavior of our 18th or 19th century ancestors whether in Australia, Namibia, or Wounded Knee any more than I would Roman actions following the destruction of Carthage. I would simply suggest that those actions can only be understood through the context of the period in which it occurred.

Back then they thought they were doing the right thing and back then by their standards they thought they were right.

The same applies to today's standards we think we are doing the right thing but is wokeism , leftist ideology and other stuff the right thing. Maybe in 200 years we will be judged.
