I recently acquired a rifle that I do not really think I’ll ever use. I figured it would be appreciated here so thought I’d share.

First heres a link to a video of the stock in the light.

The Stock is really the star of the show, which is why theres not really much for pictures of the action itself.

Back in the day when Weatherby was starting out they would take existing rifles & restock them, while often simultaneously rebarreling them to one of the Weatherby calibres. This stopped in 1956 when Weatherby released the Mark V.

The rifle I own is a pre 54 Winchester Model 70 in 300 Weatherby. The stock is most likely from around the same time period. It is absolutely beautiful. It's almost entirely blemish free except for a small chip near the bolt. I cant imagine theres many of these original stocks left. It's a nice unique piece of Weatherby’s history and one I dont think I’ll ever sell.

Anyone who’s hip to the grading system the Europeans use for stocks, I’d be curious to hear what grade this is approximately. Its far & away the nicest bit of wood I own

I am a bit of a Weatherby snub, and I'll have to say that I am green with envious! Congratulations you have a beautiful rifle. If I was you, I'd reach out to Weatherby and see if they can give you more information on the rifle and maybe purchase a letter of authenticity.

There is a Weatherby site called Weatherby Nation, and there are some very knowledgeable individuals on the site that can help you.

Please post more pictures of the assembled rifle.

I have a Chapuis 450-400 double that looks brand new and shoots well, never been hunted from what I can tell. I am willing to part with it as I have a 375 H&H Sodia on it's way from Dorleac & Dorleac. I am looking for $9,250 for it and if you are interested, I am happy to send you some pictures. Regards,
Steve
