Well, @Red Leg will hate the leather covered pad :-), but to me the rifle is near perfection. Produced by Asprey, by the likes of Mark Sullivan, Colin Orchard and Stephane Dupille (formerly of H&H) and Mick Kelly (formerly of Purdey). My photography skills are admittedly poor, but the craftsmanship is spectacular. For an interesting twist, they built the few magnum bolt rifles produced on an action sourced from the US. Very un~English. :-). Standard offerings were generally on Mauser or Mannlicher actions.

Stock is beautifully done and inletting is as nice as one can imagine. Same quality in the metalwork/blue.

I posted a picture of the bases on another thread, but figured this may get more views. I am inquiring as to if anyone can identify the bases? Manufactured in 1989 and came with a 4x Zeiss with QR rings and I will be upgrading, but would like to maintain the same bases to keep the original Zeiss in play. Any help is appreciated!

Truly lovely rifle. I particularly like the relatively long grip - both elegant and practical.

Classy and classical at the same time

Very nice. How many cartridges does it hold?

Asprey - and later William (Asprey) & Co made some beautiful rifles and guns . I always enjoyed popping into Asprey in New Bond St and later William & Co in Bruton St next to Holland & Holland . My wife bought me a beautiful pair of sidelock game guns from William & Co . Sadly the William & Co shop closed in about 2020 . I don’t think Asprey sell firearms anymore .

Asprey made some gorgeous and reliable firearms. I’m more familiar with their smooth bores but this is clearly another wonderful example. Congratulations on being its caretaker.

Wow! Yeah, this is nothing close to a pair of sidelocks, but is extremely well executed. You are correct on all fronts. Asprey no longer sells firearms, but you can get a pair of salt/pepper shakers for 12,000 pounds. :-)

Thank you. Again, pictures do not do it justice. Bluing is deep and beautiful and the stock is impeccable.

Puts me in mind of the lines on my Sako Safari, only better.
Well designed bases with recoil stops cut out on both sides, effective. Never saw them exactly like those--sure they are not an "in house" design?

They may be, but rings are nothing ornate.

What’s wrong with leather pads?

Better detail. Again, my photography skills are lacking. Stippling is the same on the bases and a nice touch when scope is removed.

These look like Talley QD mounts and rings.

PS: leather covered pads make sense on shotgun. Aids in mounting.

Hello! I saw your post from last year about a missing crate from your hunt in Moz. I am curious how that all turned out? We (my fiancé and I) also hunted in Moz in 2024 and the trophies are being shipped with Hunters Services Limitada. We have some concerns on whether we will get the trophies home or not. May I ask who you hunted with?
