Congratulations, I like your unicorn.

You could have told me that you were hunting in SE Arizona, and I would have believed you. Funny how biomes so far apart are so similar in appearance.

Thanks! It is amazing. It felt like we were hunting in the Wichita or Arbuckle mountains here in OK.

We were lucky to be at Philips when he recently acquired Aub. Some of the first groups to explore the new land. So much game! We saw a massive one horn Kudu there. I already had my unicorn and couldn’t convince my self to have two! 57 inches and worn down tips. What a free range kudu.

Congratulations on the first hunt! The Hochland is a special place for a safari. It definitely has some similarities to the Wichita's.

The afternoon after we shot our baboons we took the .22 out after francolin and guinea fowl. It was an absolute blast and guinea schnitzel is fantastic.

Philip has a lot of interesting books including some that made me wish I spoke/read German.

Congratulation - we met us every evening at the camp fire in Philips lodge and I heard, that you both made a very successful hunt with the great hunting team Isaak, Santos, Shorty and Jason. Thank you for your impressive report and the good talks about hunting in that time together at Heusis Farm in the khomas highland..

This next part is difficult to talk about so I’ll be short and sweet (more like short and slightly bitter).. In my OP I mentioned a large Springbok ram I left behind for someone…

We had seen a small group of Springbok multiple times at Aub and knew that that ram was there so I talked myself into going after him. It took a couple days to put in a successful stalk on them but we were finally able to get to around 200 yards.

I get on the sticks and I’m not quite sure what I did but I flat out miss! It gets worse.. They’re moving now (not terribly fast) and Isaak says he’s in the back. I shoot the one that I THINK is in the back (scope still turned up………….).. I shot the wrong one . Not only did I miss but I shot the equivalent of a spike or four point buck… It almost made me physically ill, not because of the size of the trophy (we didn’t measure anything) but because it was an immature animal and the wrong one at that. It still bothers me immensely.

I have a picture of him that I will keep to myself as a reminder. I made numerous glaringly obvious mistakes and learned some hard lessons that day. Anyway time to move on..

The day after the Springbok debacle/travesty we took the day off and headed to Windhoek for a little touring with Tony the English client and his PH, Juan.

We did a little shopping and visited Shilongo Leather Works. I bought some seal skin shoes that are incredibly soft and comfortable.

From there we went to eat sushi at Cape Town Fish Market which is inside the Weinberg Hotel. The food was excellent. The Weinberg is a 5 star hotel according to Mr. Google and it looked it.

After that we visited Joe’s Beer House. It was a neat place and we were told that it’s a bit of an institution.

Afterwards we visit the Hilton Hotel which has a rooftop bar and offers great views of the city. The “Craft Market” is located nearby and many people were selling trinkets for tourists, including a bunch of Himba women .

Finally we visited a gun shop named Ahrens. It was really neat and we had a good visit with the owners.

We headed back for a relaxing evening. I wish I would’ve taken more pictures that day (not of the Himba haha) and perhaps visited some other places.

Our last full day in Namibia we slept in a touch, lazed about, visited and packed.

The next day we head out early, stopping by Trophaedienste (there’s supposed to an umlaut somewhere there) for a quick look. It was amazing to see all the trophies. They have a great location being so close to the airport.

We headed to the airport from there and the rest is history.

We really enjoyed ourselves and are very happy with our decision to go to Namibia and to hunt with Khomas. Africa is a big place and I would like to see more of it but I could see going back to Khomas one day and I highly recommend them.
