I've wanted a .375 H&H for a while now but just seriously started looking within the last year. I really wanted a nice used Kimber Caprivi to match my Kimber 300WSM. But Kimber rifles are becoming scarce out there. After a few failed bids on some Winchester Mo.70s and one Colt Sauer rifle, I landed this Ruger M77. I own several other Rugers and have always liked these rifles. I am very pleased with the wood and its in spotless condition, already topped with a Vortex 1x4 scope.

I love handloading and ammo is almost non-existent right now anyway. I couldn't find Barnes bullets so I was going to use A Frames. But Midway had 300gr Norma Oryx and I have really had great luck with them in some of my other rifles, so I decided to try them first. My first test loads are ready and I can't wait to try out the rifle and the loads this weekend.
It is a really great looking round.

Hopefully this combo will be just right for a big, old Eland bull in Namibia next month!

Beautiful rifle! Congratulations! Now just book a hunt in Africa.

Cool rifle. Please post how the reloading process goes.

Those RSMs are beauties, congrats!

Great rifle. Good luck in Namibia - looking forward to the hunting report!

Beautiful timber on that rifle, congratulations.

You didn't say what kind of rings you are using on your scope. It would be wise to have some QD rings so you can use the iron sights if needed. Maybe not for this trip, but with a 375...Dangerous Game is on the menu.

Very nice good looking rifle and the Norma Oryx should do just fine it is underrated as long as you don't push velocities too much past 2500fps.

Is this for the 300 Grain .375 Oryx?
I have used much faster Oryx bullets in other calibers without any issues.

I use the Oryx and like it a great deal. It works very well on PG (Oryx). However, for buffalo I believe the A Frame would be much better choice. I am confident you will get much better penetration on a very tough animal.

I agree with that. I’ve used the Oryx in .30-06 on a few different antelope and deer species, but wouldn’t use it for Buffalo.

Off topic, but is Oryx what you used on your recent hunt in Zamibia? I’ve seen some pictures on Andrew Baldry’s Instagram. Well done.

Yes, the 170 gr in a .275 (7x57). Worked well, but only achieved a pass through on a reedbuck and base of the neck hit on a waterbuck. And Andrew is a prince of a fellow. Back in Lusaka now.

Nice Mickey!

Agree with others on 300 grain aframe for buffalo.

You might also want to look into the 235 grain CEB raptor for PG. I'm getting 2935 fps and incredible accuracy. It's also a devastating bullet on raccoons.

Hello - I was looking at your post from several years ago regarding the Winchester 300 H&H. Any chance you still have the lefty M70 300 H&H for sale?
Thank you, Mike

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
Here we are, the last day of the show in Denver, it's been a good show but expecting a quiet day today. I will be back for-sure to do this show next year and maybe also do the one in Sacramento California.

On Monday I will be hitting the road driving from Denver and eventually make it down to Atlanta for the flight home.

its going to be a good year!

Hi Rem280, Saw your post on getting selected for Idaho Elk. Do you have a zone(s) selected? I live in N Idaho, might be able to offer some ideas.

Cheers,

Craig
