I have another of my strange?
It comes from watch a old Sherlock homes show.
In the old British money pre desimal. Pounds ,shelling and pents
Say about 1890 what was a good serviceable double rifle in say 450ne
Versus a top quality one same time frame.

And what would the American money of the same time value compared to the British money?
Like a colt saa value at $17
Or a 1873 Winchester also at about 17$

How close was the cost of American mass produced “high quality “ guns
Compared to good quality British and the top quality British dangerous game rifle’s

Rigby came up with the 450 in 1898. Just FYI

There have been some old ads posted before but I’m not sure if any were that old

Ok what ever dangerous game caliber that was popular in or around 1890-1900
I just curious about the price and the money difference.
Like gentlemen payed there Taylor , gunsmith , lawyers with Guineas instead of pounds because it was a pound and a shilling

Or that’s what the show was talking about.

And with gold and silver coin was there really much difference in the money?
I know with us in fl we used Spanish money for a long time even after we became a state.

I found a article that said Teddy Roosevelt
Rifle was 85 Pounds 13 shelling And 6 pence

I should have bought so many guns if i had known the prices would ever get this high.

at the monroe pa gun show in the early 80,s i bought a 5 swedish 96,s and 5 swedish 38,s in 6.5x55 in show room condition with all matching numbers for 69.00 a piece if buying 10 or more. today they a 700-750 or more a piece in that condition if you can find them.

I reviewed the specifications for a Rigby C double rifle built in 1910 for an English shirt-tail royal. It gave all sorts of details but alas, no price. the gun was re-sold by the Texas dealer in 1989 for $14,500.

Admit, this has tickled one fold in my aging brain, not as much of the mathematical equivalency in modern currency as good old man hours of labor.

When comparing costs of a 1906 Rigby 450NE (minimal engraving) to a Colt SAA or Winchester 1873, how many man hours of labor went into each? Legitimately curious? I know there has to be production numbers out there for yearly production of Colt SAA in any given first years of 1900’s. Expect the answer is how many per day vs how many per month or year.

How big or how many oz was a pound at that time?
Compared to a eagle or dubble eagle?
Since the coins were gold and silver there had to be a size difference.

One of the crazy things from old movies was the ease of moving money. There was a show where a guy was payed off with 100,000 silver dollars. That’s a lot of weight

Just wanted to say thanks for the excellent customer service. Ordered some 9.3x62 brass and the delivery was a little short. An email through your website Contact Us link was replied to the next day with the tracking info for the correction. Good pricing coupled with great customer service will see returning customers every time. Thanks again!
