I have a 1917, 30 06 I would like to do something with. It needs a stock, I have been looking at different options. Has anyone bought a flattop mcmillan and had it inletted for a 1917 enfield action? I like the idea of 416 rigby 1917 in a mcwoody dark mcmillan stock. Not sure if this is even possible. Curious to know what guys have done for their 1917s. I know boyds offers stocks and so does richards microfit. I plan to call my smith tomorrow but was curious if guys on here had any experience with a project like this. I am also considering a 9.3x62 for this project.

@illini
The Boyd's stock isn't bad.

One with the guppy belly the other with the straightened bottom metal

What does the laminated rifle weigh?
@illini
It's an M17 that has been converted to 35 Whelen AI. It has a medium contour air gauged Douglas barrel, Timney trigger set at 2# and a cheap 3-9x40 scope for testing. Loaded with five rounds it comes in at around 9.5#. This comes in handy when you are launching 31O grainers at close to 2,500fps.
The action in this rifle has been slimmed doeq to REM model 30 specs by removing a bit of excess metal.

The one with the walnut stock is my 25 and is around 8.75 pounds field ready.

How was the fit? Did it take much work to get the rifles in the stock?

@illini the walnut was drop in but a small (very small) amount of work for the Timney trigger to fit.
The pepper laminate the same but the bottom had to be trimmed for the new flat bottom metal
Both are glass and pillar bedded.

I ordered a boyd stock this week. Ill post pics up when it gets in. Should be here soon. Im getting way too deep into this rifle. No turning back now. Next step is probably gonna be a 9.3 barrel

@illini
Forget the 9.3 barrel unless you plan to use it on DG. A nice 35 Whelen barrel with a 1:12 twist will give you a heap of fun and power
