Look on the slide itself on the right side of the rifle just in front of the bolt. There should be something there, logo, etc
Post a photo if you can.
It was common to drill and tap the receiver to accept that style of peep sight.
There are many commercially made rifles with 98 actions were made with the drilling already done.

Im actually waiting the rifle to be delivered. I bought it and was just curious about the sight, particularly the possibly ways people mount its unfortunately i have anymore pictures of the sight itself until I get the rifle

I've never seen anything like that, but it looks like its very nice, easily adjustable, probably threaded for Lyman or Williams Aperatures.

Thanks guys. The gun has been sport aroused which is what i wanted. I guess I could read up on mounting a peep sight to a mauser , but is that something that's typically an option. Like is it commonly done to rifles that are not going to be kept in factory condition

@aglass228 , did you ever figure out anything more about that peep sight? I just acquired a sporterized 98 that will probably need a rear peep similar to yours, so I'm curious to know what it is. Thanks! :-)

I think I found his same question and pictures on another forum, and the answer was that it was a Redfield sight.

I have peep sights on both my sporting Mauser 98’s one in 7x57, the other 8x57. Both came with these Lyman peep sights and claw mounts. I really prefer the peep over open sights but then I grew up shooting peeps.

Looks like a Redfield #102 sight. I have one on a 1903 Springfield sporter.

Update on my end - I've decided to mount a scope on the 98 sporter that I just acquired rather than a peep sighr. It makes use of some parts I already have on hand, and I think I'll like having the magnification.

I really like the redfield peep. Tried a few different size apertures, and im deadly accurate with it.

What sling studs do those swivels fit ? They look to be quite a bit wider than the standard modern swivels. They may be just what I need for my Remington 30 Express wide swivel studs. Can you measure the pin diameter ?
