Good areas for leopard is towards the Forestry area to the north/north west(Towards Kazuma Pan). Far to drive but good areas. On the way you will cross sand forest, Miombo and teak wood areas, you will clearly see these while driving through. Excellent areas to check for tracks and activity. Contrary to popular belief, these are good areas to place bait almost in the track as apposed to a ways off into the bush.

Area towards Unit 3 not so good but always check for tracks of large males patrolling through area. If found, follow the direction and bait well ahead.

Make sure water is not to far away from bait sight. Minimum blind distance would be 35 meters.

Good luck.

Hi Philip

Unit 5 is my excessive concession

Cheers

What was the name of the South African outfit that used to hold Matetsi 2?

A South African by the name of Katte had it until about 2 years ago he has since passed on. New people in there now have done a lot of improvements. Let me know if you need more info.

Tell us what all you hunt there and what the area is best known for. It would be a dream for me to bring Jennifer, go to Vic Falls then hunt with you again!

Matetsi is renowned for its abundance of most major species, unit 5 has 42 km open boundary with hwange national park and late season it is not uncommon to see herds of buffalo inn excess of 800.
Lion are a menace with a large population, we often encounter these daily or at least hear them.
Leopard are good, however night hunting isn't permitted hence lowering your chances slightly. The bonus is you get to shoot one in the daylight.
Elephant are everywhere with sightings of 100 plus / day
Sable, and plains game are very common.

The camp is fantastic with upgrades including a pool, wifi and great accommodation.

Unfenced, no villages........this is what makes matetsi one of Zimbabwe's favourite destinations.

I just saw Budsgunshop.com has both the guide gun and the African for $1150. FWIW - I bought both and decided to use the Guide gun - I restocked it in a Bell and Carlson stock and I added the Alaska arms floor plate to add a round. I wanted the shorter barrel as I will use a suppressor. I wont go lower than $1100, but I will ship it and no sales tax.

Let me know if you are interested
