Still being new to reloading, i could use a little guidance. Found some Hornady 480g DGX at half price and want to use them for practice with my Lott, but can't find any reloading data for that particular combo. Got 7 manuals and only 2 have any Lott info, and neither address's the 480g Hornady. Anybody able to point me to some info i can use? Got brass, a few different powders, primers etc and hate to pass up half price bullets for lack of knowledge. Thanks for any tips.

If being used at the range only, and being loaded singly, will the 480s still need to be crimped? Please forgive my ignorance, but like i said, this is all still new to me.
The crimping groove on the Hornady 480 gr. is not set up for 458 Win Mag or Lott. You'll probably have to seat the bullets out to obtain the correct OAL, then use a factory crimp die to hold the bullet in place.

You can probably get by without a crimp if single loading them. You can crimp them lightly with your seating die if you're careful.

I have used them in my lott for paper punchers and practise at BASA loaded on the crimp groove I get slight case fill over 100% with 82.5gr of Norma 203B at speed of 2300fps.
Going to move over to 500gr bullets soon.

Used the Woodleigh 480gr bullet for hunting and were very impressed with it running it just a tad lower than 2200fps.
Frontal on Red hartebeest found bullet exited at penis sheath entered the testes exited the testes entered the back leg and almost exited the back leg bullet found under the skin opened up to 1" diameter.

Also shot a zebra broadside bullet exited of course but exit showed good expansion and there was plenty blood.

I just saw Budsgunshop.com has both the guide gun and the African for $1150. FWIW - I bought both and decided to use the Guide gun - I restocked it in a Bell and Carlson stock and I added the Alaska arms floor plate to add a round. I wanted the shorter barrel as I will use a suppressor. I wont go lower than $1100, but I will ship it and no sales tax.

Let me know if you are interested
