LIVE from Texas Taxidermy Convention 2025

Thanks for posting, Joe! Best of luck to you!

Some really beautiful work! I attended the National Championship years ago when it was held in St. Charles, MO. I was amazed at what true artists can do. This year’s National Championship will be held East Peoria IL Aug 14-16. Might be worth the drive from St. Louis.

Wow, some amazing talent there! Thanks for sharing, keep them coming. (y)

The video link of a few things. I'm missing a segment from the professional division on my phone, so I guess I didn't hit record. I apologize in advance for the poor quality, but better than nothing, I suppose.

Was that your Chamois and Roe Deer with the red ribbon?

Yes, Scored an 89. I could not find any decent earliners in the US for either, and my first attempt at making my own failed. I ended up going with the standard bondo ear, which we'd do on normal mounts but judge wasn't a fan . Couple other tweaks here and there. 1 point from a blue is disappointing, but I quit seriously caring about competing 20 years ago once I earned my Blue in the Masters. I did these sorta last minute but I do appreciate the opportunity to keep learning. There were 2 big things I picked up on this show, which I'm excited to begin incorporating in some of my stuff. Keeps the mind engaged !! If you stop learning, then you might as well quit o_O

Nice. But Black Wildebeeste don't migrate........
???
If you’re talking about the wildebeest/crocodile scene, the wildebeest jumping is actually a “kings” wildebeest, one of the designer blue wildebeest and the two swimming are “regular” blue wildebeest. But to your point if the artist was trying to duplicate the wildebeest migration of Kenya and Tanzania they should have been white bearded wildebeest.

So when can we expect Buck Wild Taxidermy to open on SPID?

 I actually have 2 guys willing to financially back me opening a big shop and Lord knows Corpus Christi needs something, but as you know I already retired once and not trying to start that big of an adventure at the moment. I enjoy running my smaller, sole proprietor shop for now. (y)

This piece was done by Double Nickle Taxidermy, my taxidermist.

Courtney created the piece and she is very gifted and talented. She worked closely with me on several custom pieces for my new trophy room.

Jon Wilson runs a great business and has put together an award winning team.

Congratulations all around.

I just saw Budsgunshop.com has both the guide gun and the African for $1150. FWIW - I bought both and decided to use the Guide gun - I restocked it in a Bell and Carlson stock and I added the Alaska arms floor plate to add a round. I wanted the shorter barrel as I will use a suppressor. I wont go lower than $1100, but I will ship it and no sales tax.

Let me know if you are interested
