hello, am in the market for the vx5hd 4.5-14x5 and wanted some incite if its a perfect hunting rifle, gonna be mounting it on my Tikka T3 light in 6.5 creedmoor. any advice will be helpful thanks.

You’d need to describe the situation why this would be a perfect hunting scope/rifle for you. I personally don’t like how long range shooting has mixed with hunting. The perfect scope on a rifle to me has become a 2-10 simple duplex. It’s covered every hunting situation I’ve seen on 4 continents inside 400 yards for hunting.

The 4.5-14x is a VX-lll. It has a 1” tube. Not the HD version, but I have one on my .257 Wby.
It would be a good open country scope on the 6.5 CM. I’d prefer a little less magnification. The same scope is available in 3.5-10x and would be my choice in that scope line, but that’s me.
The Leupold VX-V series has a 30mm tube and is heavier, but also has better glass and costs approximately twice as much. There is a 2-10X that would be a great choice.

2nd the lower magnification comments. Particularly if you ever plan on shooting game inside 100 yards

much apricated I'll look into the 4.5-14x is a VX-lll, instead just wanted a perfect fit for my T3 light.

I have a VX5 HD 3x15 and a VX5 HD 2x10. Truthfully, I like 1” tubes better than 30mm, but Leupold doesn’t put that glass in a 1”.

The 3x15 was used one year and I just never warmed up to it; I like smaller, lighter, and simpler. It has been in its box for a few years.

I really like the 2x10. It has been on a gun for several years and used extensively. I have it in low Talley rings on a Kimber Mtn Pro 308; the combination works well…

I have a 4-16 Zeiss and imo 4x is to much for min magnification unless you're hunting open plains. I do have the VX5 2-10 and 3-15 and would definitely recommend either scope.

I have a 4.5-14x40 Leupold on my .300wm. Usually leave it on a lower magnification and dial it up when I’m on an animal.

I think you’ll be happy with that choice. Better to have some extra magnification than wishing you did.

Hello! I saw your post from last year about a missing crate from your hunt in Moz. I am curious how that all turned out? We (my fiancé and I) also hunted in Moz in 2024 and the trophies are being shipped with Hunters Services Limitada. We have some concerns on whether we will get the trophies home or not. May I ask who you hunted with?
