I just purchased this 30-06 from an 80 year old man. He said it was his father's. A General that brought it back with him. He claims harvested about 20 animals in various countries.
I paid $800
And what is the extra piece that came for the scope?

That extra scope piece is another reticle,H&R had that feature that one could use that to change out the box containing the reticle for a different one. They sold numerose versions.

HR was very popular as not only hunting, but Leo and Mil used also aswell as match of many kind. Good quality they arw. Great rifle also you got there.

Nice looking rifle, hard to believe you could go wrong on that deal.

You did well enough that I’ll offer you $800 plus shipping for it right now if you’re having any second thoughts or buyers remorse…

Original Sako QD rings as well, which is cool.
Is the leather hood covering a front sight? If so, is there a detachable rear peep sight for the rear scope base?

Not sure if true or even possible. But he said his father brought this rifle back to the states on a b58 hustler where one of the fuel pods has been converted to a cargo carrier.
I'm enjoying the history of the rifle nearly as much as the rifle itself.

I've owned several Sako rifles and like them a lot. That's a deluxe grade, not the more common standard grade. Higher polish steel, better walnut, skip line checkering, grip cap inlay, etc. And you have the most desirable early version of the rifle, Bofors steel. You did very very well at that price. It's probably worth at least 50% more, at least it would be in Canada.

What a beautiful rifle. The old pecar is an outstanding old bit of glass that you can send off to have the reticle changed if you want.
Great combination.

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
